I did parkrun at Ashton Court again today. A damp dreary cold morning - hey, perfect for running! π
There were loads of first timers and I wondered how many knew exactly what they were in for! Watching the first timersβ briefing from afar I could see the Run Director gesturing upward towards the cottage which is the 1k mark. A brutal 1k, and it doesnβt end there - the path has a βfalse summitβ, flattens out a tad then thereβs another steep bit. Even that isnβt the end of it, next thereβs the gravel path, 90% of it uphill! Poor newbies, they all looked a bit pale. π
Anyway, it took an eternity to get running - us dog people being at the back had about 20 seconds to wait before going through the start, as was confirmed by my Garmin/MMR time vs the official result. Iβve grown used to that! ππππ
Anyway, I had nearly negative splits again! It was a faster 5k time than during my 6k run on Tuesday, so I was pleased with that. π Unless I crawl on my hands and knees for the first km, Iβll never achieve fully negative splits with that hill, so Iβll be content with what I did today! πββοΈ
Iβve also moved up an age category this week and for my birthday my hubby has booked me an all bells and whistles gait analysis at a running lab on Feb 5th. It lasts 60 minutes and they do all sorts. π Iβll be cream crackered! Maybe Iβll wear my Garmin and treat it as a βrunβ π€π€
Anyway, I now have that lovely fatigued leg feeling and Iβm doing very little this afternoon which is just my kind of day! β€οΈ
Happy running you fab bunch of VRBs. π

Fantastic Cheeky!! ππ! I made it Parkrun today too!! Wet and slow but I loved it! Iβm not chilling out a bit this afternoon satisfied, after a bit of a up and down week. Well done you!! π€β€οΈ
Well done Cheeky and belated happy birthday ππ₯π Great time and your final km time was amazing ππ No parkrun for me this week as I had an ophthalmology appointment this morning. That does mean though that I can have a nice Sunday run. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Happy birthday cheekychipmunks and what a good run you had. Yes negative splits are only possible on a flat run, unless the hill is in the 1st km.
Itβs funny I didnβt see any pushchairs or dogs today but UTS says they were there. They obviously didnβt start at the back and overtake me like our parkrun. In fact I didnβt see any in the runners running in the opposite direction- Iβm usually so observant but maybe I was in the zone π€£π€£
We were saying today that itβs good to get out early to do Parkrun but by the time weβve had breakfast, showered , slumped on the sofa and looked at the stats, the day can be gone! Itβs a great feeling though
Iβm always in awe of people who push buggies - there was a lady at Eastville a couple of weeks ago with a double buggy plus a tiny baby in a front sling. Of course she flew past me too! ππββοΈπ
And yes this forum doesnβt half take up my time! My phone alerts me whenever anyone I follow posts, so Iβm always having a nose and/or posting myself! And as for stats ...... well my Garmin has a lot to answer for. More time wasting opportunities! π π Saturdays fly by! π€£
Brilliant run CC , great splits and belated Happy Birthday. Canβt wait to hear more about your gait analysis. It sounds very thorough to last an hour.
Thank you Wimborne. Iβm very excited about the gait analysis - and a little nervous. Theyβll probably expect an elite athlete to come through their door. No, that would be me, sorry guys! π π
Thanks TC. I met a friend at Ashton Court this morning and sheβs planning on going to Burnham which is a flat seafront parkrun. Might need to give that a whirl!
I know Iβll be nervous before the gait analysis. Hope I donβt make a fool of myself, but it does sound interesting. ππββοΈ
Oh, Burnham would be lovely .... breezy, but lovely. I haven't been there in years. My dad lives in Weston, so that's our seaside of choice!
And I'm sure they'll put you at ease for the gait analysis - I just can't imagine what they'll be doing with you for a whole hour!πππββοΈππΊ
Oh lovely, I havenβt been to Burnham for years, but my mum is in a care home in Weston to I go there often. My dog loves the beach! πβ€οΈπ
I have no clue about the gait analysis either. I know they film every conceivable angle of your running gait and analyse it in depth. It should be really interesting. π
My husband asked what Iβd like for my birthday and I casually mentioned I could do with some better running shoes - and thatβs what he arranged! A fabulous present! β€οΈ
Happy birthday for last Wednesday ππ°πππ and that is such a satisfying feeling when your legs are tired from a good run isnβt it π enjoy your gait analysis π
Hahaha Baddie, thank you! I remember singing that when I was at school and there also used to be a fabulous birthday card with those words on! And yes, dog doesnβt fit does it!? π π
Me neither. Iβve always been active, I rode horses for years and worked with them too which is very physical, but running has brought a whole new level of fitness which I never realised I had! Itβs helped me in all walks of life and itβs fabulous. Walks I did with my dog are now effortless - some are pretty hilly - and Iβm physically stronger too. πͺ Isnβt it great? ππ
Fab cheeky, just fab. Belated birthday wishes too πππΎπ₯π. Great pressie off the hubster too, you lucky lady!!. Weβve had delay our trip to Oz as we will be moving on the 8th Feb. Will have to find new running routes!! ππ»
I hope your move goes smoothly. π€ Always a stressful time. How exciting finding new routes though. Are you already familiar with the area? Good luck! ππ
What a great present your husband has given you - you must report back on here what it is like. I am thinking about gait analysis and weighing it up against another pair of decathlon trainers. The ones I have are meant to be for beginning running and/or one run. week and I am doing a bit more than that.
A full hour of analysis sounds like you will learn a lot about your running style, hope you have fun as well!
Thanks SSF, it is a tricky parkrun but very rewarding. Itβs ranked 495 out of 512 in terms of elevation but if I can do it, itβs certainly doable!
My Asics Patriot 7s are fabulous trainers, but like yours I donβt think theyβre designed to go miles and miles. Mine have taken me happily from W2 of C25K and have covered many miles now, and whereas theyβre still comfy I do wonder how much supportive life they have left. Who knows, they may go on longer - Iβm sure to find out! Canβt wait for the gait analysis - more running info for me to pore over as they give you your videos too I think! ππββοΈπββοΈ
Oh that will be an experience, watching yourself run on video!!
My trainers started c25k back in July. I will be sad to see them go, but I got another pair in the sale to wear as casual shoes, and the difference between the two is amazing.
I will have to look up the table of steep park runs! although I have only done one so far.
If Iβve done it correctly, hereβs the link to the parkrun elevation guide! Both of the ones I do are in the 400βs (Eastville and Ashton Court). πββοΈ
Happy birthday! I'm impressed with your persistance at Ashton Court - only been once (not parkrun) but remember the hill. Enjoy your super birthday present experience - looking forward to hearing about it!
Thatβs weird Slinky, I replied to your message I know I did! So where is it? π π
Anyway, in case itβs in the ether somewhere, thank you! I love the Ashton Court parkrun even though itβs a toughie for the first half at least - the reward at the top is immense! πͺβ€οΈπββοΈ
Thank you Dreams! β€οΈ Iβm a bit of a glutton for punishment I guess, but Iβm enjoying the challenge and Iβm hoping my persistence will make the hills easier! π€
Ooh extended gait analysis, that sounds intriguing Cheeky, I hope you tell us all about it. Happy birthday for the day.
We had a tourist from Ashton Court at our Parkrun yesterday, I was quite keen on the idea of touristing there until I read your post π No wonder she was enthusing about the flatness of York!!!
And by the way TC, if I can do Ashton Court anyone can! Yes the hill is long and pretty steep in places, but the reward at the top makes it worth the pain. If you fancy it one day, let me know! ππ
Hey cheeky, hope you had a fab birthday. Great pressie from your husband too, he's certainly found something suitable this year.... But if they recommend bespoke etc. has he included this too? πΈπΈπΈπ
Hi Wiggy, thanks! Yes he did well didnβt he? He likes me running as itβs a darned sight cheaper than keeping horses which is what I did until 2 years ago! π
And yes, heβs agreed to buy me whichever runners are recommended, so itβs a win-win for me! πππββοΈ
