Happy weekend. For any of you new graduates whom have started running during COVID-19 world you may have heard of a thing called parkrun. parkrun is a free 5K which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. And don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K did it religiously every Saturday morning.
Obviously we can not do it anymore. We are all hoping that parkrun will start back up in 2021, fingers crossed. So until parkrun returns, we take part on our own, in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning. We post after our run and let everyone know how we got on. The little run report can be done over a post virtual parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new). It can be run/walked on any route close to you which is 5K. Does not have to be done in a park, you can even do it on a treadmill.
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is a 5K run/jog/walk anytime Friday, Saturday or Sunday and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun on the website. I only log Saturday runs, when I remember.
Anyway, looking forward to my run and also looking forward to hearing from all of you. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.
Damien
I've pinned the post. So please respond over the next day or two in the below thread. Happy running.

I thought it was Sunday today, I had yesterday off work as need to use leave and so it feels like Sunday, have a great run everyone, we did a short run yesterday so may not get out today
Haha losing and gaining days! Just wait till you retire - it's even harder to keep track of the day of the week, particularly in lockdown 🤣. The weather has been rubbish here this weekend so no run I'm afraid.
I did a (not) ParkRun today. I thought I was running for my UK VRB’s in honour of your 50 missing weeks but I got my dates wrong. 33.30 for me today. ❤️🏃♀️
Waiting for my bread rolls to cook and the adrenaline to calm down as according to Strava I got a pb! And I got a pb by not feeling I was going to die too which is an added bonus 🤣
It was weird because I lay in bed thinking it was going to be a good one but then I got up and the usual aches and pains appeared. But I got into my stride and the first 1km was 5:32 and my breathing was good.
So according to Garmin I came in at 27:18 but Strava says 27:05 🤷🏻♀️ Really, really want to try this on my flat parkrun course now as I’m getting so close to the 26 minute bit. Please let parkrun restart before I get too old 🙏🙏🙏
Oh wow TC. Huge congratulations to you on your new PB. Amazing running and yes wouldn’t it be great to be getting a parkrun PB and celebrating in a cafe afterwards. Excellent running. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Dexy, took me totally by surprise! RED January seems to have really helped. I think doing it in conjunction with Adriene as well has balanced things out nicely 😃
Woohoo, I ran in dry and virtually windless conditions today. Hallelujah! The ground was more or less frozen so no mud either. What a huge difference to last weekend. 🙏🏻
My time, although not a PB by quite some way, was almost 6 minutes quicker than last week and I ran my 5k today in 35:40.
I’m hoping to get my legs back to PB territory eventually, as they’re still in winter muddy slog mode and need reminding that they can, in fact, get a move on! I’ll be reintroducing regular intervals to help. Said it here. Has to happen! 😳😖😅
I hope you’re all having nice runs today. Stay warm and safe. 🥰
Thanks Dexy. I’ve committed to training on the common until the HUHM at the end of next month, then I’ll revert to routes with actual paths, including Ashton Court. I’m hoping we’re allowed to travel a bit further afield by then! 🤞😀
Good afternoon Damien, my right leg is still a little sore but I did run my 47th virtual /34th (not) parkrun two and a half minutes quicker than last week in a time of 38.58, I was hoping it would be sub 40 minutes which it was, goodness knows when and if I will be able to run a sub 35 minute 5K again, my last sub 35 minute 5K was December 14th last year.
Next Saturday morning at 9.40 I have an appointment for my first Covid 19 vaccination so I'll run my 48th virtual run on Friday morning.
I hope it won't be long before you can get a sub 35 minute 5K, thanks for the advice regarding my leg and first Covid 19 vaccination next Saturday, that's why I am running it 24 hours before I get the jab.
Take good care. I'm working on the 35 minute 5k, nearly there at a push 😁 and looking forward to experiencing my first parkrun when they start up again 🏃♀️ thank you for your good wishes Al
Well done Al and fantastic that you are getting your vaccination next week. I’m way off my PB territory too. But I’ve decided that just continue to run will be good enough until parkrun returns. I’m not going to be worrying about pace until parkrun returns.
Happy Saturday VRBs! It was absolutely pouring down when I woke up this morning, so I checked out the weather forecast and waited until just after 10.30 when it had slowed to a gentle drizzle. Unbelievable how much flooding there is on the roads, but the ground is just saturated and there’s nowhere for it to go. At least it wasn’t too cold. 32.11 for me, my fastest (not) parkrun time this year and fastest since 14 November. Way off a PB but I am starting to do a weekly speed(ier) run to try to finally get back sub 30 with the aim of a first sub 60 10k by London Vitality on 31 May🤞🏻
Well done for getting out Sandie. I hope all that water hasn’t changed to ice overnight for you. There’s no doubt that once It warms up you’ll be back to PBs.
Hello Damien. I ran my not parkrun on Wednesday with a time of 29.49. It was not fun🤣🤣 falling snow and 40 - 50mph winds . I was so glad to get home . Hope you enjoyed your run 😊👍
Hi Damien and fellow virtual (not) park runners. Hope you've all had a good week. It was cold and dry today when I ran. Not too many walkers to dodge which was nice.
I found the whole run tough today. But when I got home and checked the stats I it turns out I ran 30:36. That explains why I felt out of breath _ I thought I was just a bit tired after the work zoom meeting last night and having a bad run!
Thank you. Believe me I have been whooping!!. It was a only 14 seconds faster than previously but any achievement in these strange times just gives me such a lift.Stay safe.
30mph + winds, rain, mud, 3C and getting colder; I am going to use the b word; brutal! Only an idiot would run in conditions like this ( cue: hallo I'm the famous Eccles!!). I knew I was in bother when I saw a runner I know well wrapped up and mouthing "you are brave" as I passed. Mad more like it!Anyway; 5k done, 34:46, but that did include paddling and waiting to cross roads! Calf sore afterwards....but help is on the way!🙂
It was looking pretty gloomy when we were eating our cereal, then it went really dark. Then, after we had put on our shoes, hats, gloves and jackets it started pouring down , but we could see the sky getting lighter in the distance. So we waited a while until the rain was less heavy and off we set on our usual Saturday route. The rain eased off and stopped so it turned out to be a nice run, all on roads or track so at least the puddles were not muddy. I ran just over 5km before our 2km walk home, via the 2nd breakfast shop.
Quite a decent time for my (not)parkrun and VRunClub, taking me to about a third of the way round the little island of La Graciosa on my latest virtual holiday run.
I forgot to tell you about my run. I went at lunchtime. It had stopped raining thankfully and I took off on my 5K. I ran 3K and then walked fast for 500 meters before running the rest of the way home. My time was 33:16. I’m a long way away from my parkrun PB of 25:36 but will aim to be back to sub 30 minute 5K soon.
Very good run for you today Damien, I hope soon you will get back to running sub 30 minute 5K's, I wonder when parkruns resume if they will start at the same time in Ireland and the UK
Completed 5k very slowly 45'40". It was part if my 55 minute run (I assume it still counts.) Also did my first 6K. I feel I have been slow all this week and seen to have a had a few aches and niggles. Is it herey to say that if it is too icy next week, a 7 day break to really concentrate on strength and flex might be ideal?
Well done on your long run. Yes of course it counts incorporating your 5K into your long run. It’s meant to snow here this week. It might mean a break for a few days for me too. It’s no harm, a 7 day break will give your niggles time to heal up.
Already posted a long report in 10k forum before then finding this post tonight, sounds fun and want to get into parkruns when they return so doing some virtual ones seems a good idea 👍🏻 26.04 was my 5k time a new PB 😁
I have done 73 parkruns and I may very well be the same. I can’t wait for parkrun to return. I have a brother living in Saskatoon and hopefully some day I’ll do the parkrun there and get my Canadian flag on the parkrun challenges website.
Indeed you can. You can enter a 5K any day. But a group of us here on this forum were huge parkrun fans and religiously did a parkrun every Saturday morning. I also got into parkrun tourism and have ran at 22 different locations. When parkrun was canceled due to COVID we decided to keep the spirit of parkrun alive by doing a virtual parkrun on our own and report back on a thread each weekend. We have been doing this even before (not)parkruns were a thing.
Dare I say, It was a gorgeous spring-like day down here but I decided not to run as I’d not slept well on Friday night. Also it was so lovely that everyone would have been out walking and playing on the prom, beach and in park areas. So I am hoping to get out today or tomorrow in the cold wind .
I did enter a (not) parkrun time of 37.15 on Monday during my 9k run.
Hi, I hope you had a better night last night and are able to get out for a run today or tomorrow. Have to admit I tend to give a little cheer when the weather is a bit cold and grey as it reduces the number of times I have to leap off of the path onto the muddy verge to give the walkers safe space.
I hope you enjoyed you Chish & Fips JonathanP! It’s not surprising in one of the most densely populated cities - people will head for the beach to see the sea.
I had a great run today! UTS has just posted - haven’t read it yet.
And you will Damienair. I’m doing a 4 minute warm up before I leave the house which I think is helping. Thank you @roseabi! Then taking it slowly in the first kms and just adding 1 km a week. Everything seems to be working out.
I have wanted to do a parkrun for ages but felt that I needed to do the C25K first. I've done that now and, of course no park runs available at the moment. Good to learn about the virtual park run. I will give it a go. Thank you 🏃♀️🙂
Well done Julie , great decision. I did my first Parkrun just after I graduated and followed W9 R3, complete with 5 minute walks and progressed from there. You will be able to run the full 5k by the time you start.
You will love it. parkrun is amazing and there is such a lovely warm atmosphere at it every Saturday morning. As Dexy5 said it is very addictive. The first parkrun back will be very special.
After doing 10k on Friday ( best time since July at 1.03.03!😀), I gave yesterday a miss, so did my (not) parkrun at 9 this morning.
It was pretty nippy, especially since I started off running along the top of the hill into the east wind, but there were quite a few other hardy souls out and about, both runners and walkers. Ended up with 29.26 and a quite surprising 2 extra points on VO2 max - I don't really trust it but it feels good when it goes up!
Back home for hot shower and second breakfast - yogurt and fruit, followed by home-made rock cake. 😋 Happy running one and all!
Well done JonathanP. Gee it was cold in that wind. We were running straight into it to the Hayling island ferry this morning and it was like running up portsdown hill!
Hi all, I did my 5km last night in the cold, wet and dark as my other half went off for his first covid jab. It peed down but I don't know what I've turned into, but I didn't care!! I have recently downloaded Strava so I set off with Spotify, an excellent playlist supplied by @jancanrun (thanks very much its brilliant!) then I started NRC app for a 5km run, set my Fitbit which Strava is now now synced with. So three different apps all measuring my run!! Whats very confusing is that NRC and Fitbit give a slightly different time, so I'm going with the best one which was 32mins 22secs, I'm getting closer to doing my 5km in 30mins, have been determined since I graduated from C25K last July, but didn't realise how long it would take!! These cold dark night really don't help do they. I have a chest light now but its still not the same as running in the daylight particulary where I live as in one direction its all rural country lanes, which lanes that have big dents in!!
Very well done for going out in the rain. You’ll be running 30 minute 5K’s. It’s hard running on your own though. I think it’s easier to push yourself when running a race or a parkrun. You can look forward to that when COVID is finally behind us.
Can you count me in please? I usually fit at least a 5k on a Friday, and hopefully a longer one on Saturday/ Sunday, so I hope that counts. I managed a slow 5k yesterday, and hopefully another tomorrow (a nice 4 day weekend).
Very well done 👍. Yes of course your run counts. It’s not anything official. Just a bit of fun on a Saturday and Sunday. So if you run, jog or walk 5K it counts.
Just come across this and it sounds a fun thing to do. I’m very new to running and am trying to get fitter after a big brush with the big C. I’ve this morning really enjoyed running in a blizzard! I wanted to experience it and yep....it was cold. I’m very slow and perhaps if I could run quicker I’d warm up! I think I’m the slowest on here at 50m40s for today’s 5K but I’m still loving it all.
Welcome. We do this every week so please make sure to join in. I put up the same post every Saturday. Speed and pace is irrelevant. Just like the real parkrun it is open to everyone and everyone is welcome whether you run, jog or walk. It is all just about getting some fresh air, a bit of exercise and enjoying it. It is not a race, just a bit of fun. So I look forward to seeing your post again next week. And get a nice breakfast, lunch or treat for yourself next Saturday to have after your 5K whilst you write your reply. The best thing about parkrun is the post parkrun treat.
Hmm - not this week. My aim of a longer run yesterday was thwarted by the rain and morphed into a shorter 3K run and an experiment with fartleks that gave me a new PR for one mile. However today I braved the mud, snow and sub-zero temperatures and did a 5k walk in my wellies through the woods, following my local parkrun route. I stopped to take photos several times and had a most enjoyable hours or so. Mr Garmin even awarded me a Frosty Badge for doing an activity when it was below freezing. 🥶❄⛄
