Good morning everyone. It's that time of the week again. Saturday is parkrun day normally, but that awful COVID-19 has wrecked that part of our lives. But a little group here on this forum are standing strong and we are running our own little private and personal 5K (not)parkrun. We might have a few new runners joining us this morning so remember to say a lovely big friendly hello at the first timers briefing.
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is a 5K run/jog/walk anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun on the website. I only log Saturday runs, when I remember.
Oh yeah, don't forget your post parkrun Coffee and treat.
Happy running and looking forward to reading all the run reports.

Morning everyone! Hope your runs were a little less wild and woolly than mine! π¨ πββοΈ
Iβm running the Virtual Vitality 10000 tomorrow with 5 VRBs (ARBs to be precise), but I couldnβt miss out on my (Not) PR could I? πββοΈ
Iβd already decided to keep it relaxed (any excuse) for that very reason, so I trundled round my loop in 35:46. π
Iβm happy to call that a relaxed pace now, I was flying if I managed that a year ago. So anyone holding onto stubborn snails, take heart, they do move on! Iβve sneakily kept some back though and they accompany me on tricky runs! π
We will start into the wind, then have it behind us once weβve got over the toxic 10,. Weβll be out of it a short time and then back into it for the finish. You hill training will be good preparation.
Unlike cheeky, Iβve finished tapering before my VV10k tomorrow, so Iβll do the first timers briefing.
Welcome to all the new runners this week. Remember to keep your dog on a short leash and always run on the left. Please note you can run with a buggy or a dog, but not both . We do not have priority on the course so always try to avoid members of the public. Smile and wave and enjoy your run and say hello to the volunteers - parkrun wouldnβt happen without them. ππ Parkrun is a walk, jog or a run - it is not a race! Pick up your finishing token at the end and take that and your barcode to the scanners. Please do not take finish tokens home. No barcode, no time. π’
Have fun everybody. Be warned - parkrun is addictive
Thatβs not quite long enough for Stratford. I think you might get kicked off of HU if your running briefing was as long as ours though π€£ Have fun tomorrow π
I think your RD holds the record for the longest brief Tailchaser! Heβs going to have to shorten it for the new procedures, which will be a challenge.
I'd love to be at a first timers briefing again. Nice. Can't wait to be there someday. I'm going to hold off on my 5K (not)parkrun until tomorrow. My legs were a little tired after the 10K on Thursday. The left hamstring was a bit stiff. Just in case I'm taking an extra rest day. Enjoy your 10K tomorrow.
Some of you may have read my post a few weeks ago about overdressing and consequently overheating π₯π₯π₯on a wet and cold run, well,,,....... I've learned my lesson well, I've got two new breathable running tops ( only wearing one at a time of course!), DON'T run in waterproof bottoms as well as my leggings, and don't pile any other layers on.
Thing is, I thought by doing longer runs during the week ( doing the magic plan to get to 10k) that my shorter runs or 5km would be quicker but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think I'm now needing longer recovery between runs, which is annoying but I'm being good and doing other things rather than running.Still haven't got a sub 30 for my 5km. Still at just over 32 mins βΉοΈ.
But love running in the rain and even the dark( now make sure my beanie light is always charged though,) running in the pitch black is a bit spooky!!π»π»
It takes ages to sus out the best thing to wear Hedge, especially when the seasons change over. I still get it wrong after 2.5 years π Sounds like youβre really getting it sorted though ππ
Very well done on your run. 32 mins is good for 5K. Concentrate on getting to 10K first. Then once you are at 10K you can work on pace. You need to mix runs up a bit, 1 x long run, 1 x 5K with speed interval training and a good effort 5K every week will have you heading towards sub 30 mins.
It's not bad here. But I'm taking an extra rest day today after my 10K on Thursday. My legs were still a little stiff this morning. Looking forward to my 5K tomorrow.
My 5k was, once again, run as part of my long run on Juju's Magic Plan ( real magic!,)
Well it was wild and windy .The wind seemed to be against me on the way out and back_how does that happen?
But....my best run ever:
5k pb 32:04
First 60 minutes run
9k 60:04
Thanks to Juju for the plan, thanks to Damienair for the supportive comments and organizing our (not) parkrun 5k, thanks to AlMorr for encouraging responses, thanks to everyone for inspiring and entertaining posts. Feels like an Oscar speech _but then I feel like a winner this morning!
Morning Damien, morning all. I cheated and did my (not)parkrun yesterday because I wanted a rest day before the Vitality 10k tomorrow. Itβs the first Iβve done in a few weeks so I felt a bit of trepidation at the thought of a fast run again.
It was still dark when we went out but it got lighter as we ran. Too early for the school run too but I think many had inset days so it wasnβt too busy.
Thankfully I finally seem to have recovered from this cold and my lungs were working properly again. My second fastest (not)parkrun of 27:58 was very reassuring. Just want parkrun to return whilst Iβm still young enough to achieve sub 28 minute 5kβs!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and happy running too πͺπ
It does happen eventually Hedge. You plateau for ages then speed up again. Hate to say it but doing hill reps and intervals help (although I havenβt done them in ages!). Hate both!! When I know that parkrun is definitely returning then...
π€£ I used to, and I have...sort of. Iβve just got so used to doing 10ks now I forget to do it. And I get really antsy if I canβt get out and push my heart rate for half an hour.
A very top of the morning to you Damien, I hope you are very well today.
This morning I was 30 minutes late on starting my 32nd Virtual and 19th (not) parkrun because of heavy rain, however, the rain soon went off and I started my run at just after ten o'clock, there were a lot of puddles about and I had to slow down a bit because of leaves, I did not want to slip then fall, hence my slightly slower time of 35.24, I had to avoid large parts of my route because of deep long puddles, nevertheless a reasonable run for me today.
Very well done Al. Another nice 5K. I'm holding off on my run until tomorrow. My legs were still a little stiff after my run on Thursday. I was busy gardening, raking up leaves and gave my lawn to last mow. I'm going to watch the rugby now.
Our parkrun is just short of 5km, so I am running further on my (not) parkruns. In fact, I usually run 6km, with a 2km walk back to the bacon butty shop
I am claiming my Monday run for my (not) parkrun this week. I have been logging 3 x 5km every week, so am up to 57 on the (not) parkrun table.
So on Monday I ran alongside a friend on the Middlewood Way again. Even though I don't think I was talking quite as much this week, we finished our 5km at 33.10.
We each "blamed" the other for the fast pace
Not only a lockdown pb for me, but I have only run faster than that twice before, back in 2018. Geoff pointed out that my WAVA was 60.20% - my first time over 60% (that's his personal target, I rarely look at it)
A slow but longer run on Wednesday then a steady 6km this morning:
7.12 7.10 7.04 7.10 7.10 7.12
I usually deduct the slowest of my first or last km for the (not) parkrun time, but this week they are the same!
After not running for 10 days I completed the Vitality 10,000 this morning in a time of 1:04:57. I missed out on a 5k PB by 5 seconds but I am really happy with my time and loved my run this morning.
Evening damienair managed to run 5k in 38.17 this morning dodging the showers in wet and windy lockdown Wales. Not many cars about so it was a lovely run.
Well done. We are in lock down here too. Should be restricted to 5K from our home, but not sure if many are paying attention to that this time around. But I am and will be going out for my 5K soon.
Enjoy your run, lockdown is not really affecting my runs because I always stay local and if I want to increase distance I repeat part of the run. Canβt wait though for all this to be over.
Hi Damien, I'm joining you in doing my (not) parkrun a day late this week as we were visiting our new granddaughter yesterday! The weather looked very iffy this morning, but about 8.30 it cleared up , so I thought I'd better get going before the showers started up again.
My 10k on Thursday had been quite hard going, so I started off fairly gently and was rewarded with (nearly) negative splits of 6.17, 6.08, 6.09, 5.48, 5.44 equalling 30.07. And as soon as I got in the door the rain started again - perfect!
Fantastic. Great running. Yes just like you I have not run since my 10K attempt on Thursday. I'm looking forward to my 5K, I'll be going out soon. I'd love a time like yours. Well done.
Lock down again, and again the paths are busy. I think it's hilarious, as soon as people can't do anything else, and are told to stay at home, they are all out again. When the last lock down was lifted there was an instant reduction in the amount of people out exercising.
I did my (not)parkrun at midday today. It was very windy but dry and mild. I ran an interval session again today so I won't be logging it as a (not)parkrun officially. I was happy with my run, I ran 2.7K at a 5:41 min/km pace but could not maintain that pace so decided to do intervals. I finished the 5K in 28:25 at an average pace of 5:40. I am happy with that, but I did take breaks in between the intervals so it was not a full 5K without breaks, so I will not count it as anything other than an interval session.
