I think I need help.

What is this retail madness that befalls me?? A couple of months ago I proudly posted a picture of my new Brooks Adrenaline GTX20s but sadly our affair didn’t last. To be fair, they were OK for my 5k joffles but ju-ju’s plan demands a bit more than that and I found on the longer runs my toes pinched. So yesterday my local independent running shop exchanged them for these Brooks Transcend 7s. But I’m sure you’ll have spotted a second pair in the pic. There was no-one else waiting in the shop so I asked about trail shoes (😱) and before I knew it I was the owner of a pair of lovely green ON trails! I’ve taken the Transcends out for a 2.5km practice before (not)Parkrun on Thursday. They felt OK but we’ll see how they work on a longer run - trouble is the shoes aren’t really the problem, it’s my feet!

Oh glory! I’ve some catching up to do don’t I?! My trouble is that I’m rapidly running out of space - If I’m not tripping up over diving gear , I’m now finding running gear all over the place! And there’s only me here!

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10 in reply toOldgirlruns

Diving is something I've never tried. I assume the bulk is tanks and the kit associated with them.

Oh yes - and there are endless retail opportunities!

ha ha, I'm learning this 'free' sport has lots of shopping opportunities..

Wishing you many happy miles in either pair :-)

Oooh delish! I have Ons for my road shoes and I love them. Now I'm so tempted to get some trail shoes (I don't actually run trails but I want to and keep telling myself I will if I have the right shoes :) ) Please let me know how you get on with them!

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toNetCadet

I know how you feel - now I have the shoes, I have to go find a trail don’t I?!

Milton Common or Hilsea Lines are your closest options although both (like all trail) can involve encounters with off lead dogs.

Nice!!!! Beautiful ! I can see how you have fallen for these beauties! The right green trail beauty seems to bashfully stand behind the more assertive, handsome street-wise shoe! 😃

Love a bit of shoe porn. Looking forward to hearing about the trail shoes as I am in the market for a pair.

I’ll have to find a trail and post about it!

I look forward to meeting the transcends tomorrow- they’ve certainly got a bit more pizzazz than the Adrenalines with the orange markings. And I’ve heard a lot of people on the forum drooling about their ons. I think we’ll have to find a little trail So you can try them out.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

Sounds good to me Dexy!

Coddfish profile image
CoddfishGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

Dexy5 and Oldgirlruns Milton Common is probably the easiest local trail starter. The loop taking in the coast path and the main path behind Swan Lake is almost exactly 2k, on wide and fairly flat compact gravel and earth paths. Mr C and I will often either do 2-3 laps of that, or combine it with some of the paths that run across the actual common, which are generally narrower and slightly more undulating. We could always use it for our next (not) parkrun but there isn’t a cafe anywhere close.

A topic for discussion at brekkie tomorrow methinks!

Well done to the shop for exchanging your shoes. I hope you get on well with both pairs. Happy running 🤗

I was only just in time to meet Brooks criteria for returns!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply toGrannyhugs

Brooks have a guarantee that you can run in them and return within 90 days. Some shops only allow exchange or give a credit note but Brooks should give a refund.

Edit: getting a refund is proving difficult. Watch this space

You are so lucky to have such a great shop. I bought shoes a couple of months ago which did not suit me at all. Very uncomfortable after just 1K. My shop refused to do any exchange. So I'm stuck with them and can't wear them for running. Anyway, last time I'll buy anything off them. I'm waiting for the new Brooks GTS 21's to be released and I'll buying then from a different shop.

Love the new shoes. Happy running in them.

Thanks damienair! Could you sell your shoes on the internet if they’re not worn down? Or maybe use them for walking?

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toCaptFrey

Oh yes, very justifiable!!

Wowzers!! Brilliant choices ✅ I run in Transcend 7's too! They have a guide rail in. I don't get any knee pain or aches in these. I've found them ideal for longer runs. I love your colour choices. Let us know how you find both moving on. I love the look and design of the ON trainers.

Ooohhhh they look nice. The bottle green Ons do remind me of the school uniform I wore back in the day.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toCoddfish

Don’t remind me - bottle green gym kit!

Coddfish profile image
CoddfishGraduate10 in reply toOldgirlruns

We had bottle green blazer and skirt and a shirt in a colour called ecru, which was a sort of yellowy off white. Bottle green skirt shorts and a white top for gym, I think. Plus bottle green gabardine raincoat.

I grew up in a mining town and my family struggled financially during the ‘winter of discontent’. We managed to have a couple of weeks the following summer in a seaside chalet belonging to someone we knew, but couldn’t afford new summer clothes. My mum thought it would be ok for me to wear my green and white striped school summer frocks, because they weren’t what the local schools wore. The horror!

You only have one pair of feet so treat ‘em sweet! When I think of what I used to crush my feet into during my younger days it makes me wince. Off to have my gait analysis this Wednesday so feel a spending splurge coming on and agree with SueAppleRun the green ones are fab!

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toTimotea

Thanks Timotea! Yes, the thought of what I used to wear is enough to bring on a bunion, oh it’s already here! Hope the gait analysis goes ok and that a snazzy new pair of trainers calls out to you!

I have these Brooks trainers too and just love them 💓

Maddee_6333 profile image

Lovely!

Are ONs the ones which have a thick sole?

If so, you may actually find them awkward for anything other than a finished bark chip type path.

I can’t run in anything with any depth (stack height?) as I need to be able to feel the roots etc under my feet. Plus I really worry about turning my ankle in them.

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10 in reply toMaddee_6333

What sort of shoe do you normally wear, then? (Said the habitual wearer of minimalist shoes.)

Maddee_6333 profile image
Maddee_6333Graduate10 in reply tonowster

Cheap More Miles for trail - which I think are either 4 or 6mm drop. Used to have Inov-8s for trail but wasn’t able to find one to suit last year.

Hoka One Ones for street running, which I do not do a lot of.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toMaddee_6333

Soles look thick Maddee but I’m not sure they’re any thicker than my other ones. Hopefully they’ll be fine! Doubtless I’ll be posting about their first trip out before too long!
