Just a wee one

A short tickle along the canal today just to try and keep to 3 runs a week. A young woman running towards me who was obviously very fit gave me a huge smile and a thumbs up. How lovely!

VO2 max has improved as well - I am now at the right age. I was ten years older a month ago 🀣🀣🀣

Excellent Fionamags, you were 71 a month ago, now 61, keep running and doing your exercises regularly, in a month's time you will be 51.

Heh heh heh if only :)

I find my VO2 max depressing as the more I run the lower it gets. I’m now at 27- the lowest 40% for my age group apparently. Luckily mine doesn’t guess my age ☹️😭

But you're a 100% in jazzy run wear 😁

True!!!

Mine was way worse a month ago and I was nearly running 10k at that point! I wonder if it was because I adjusted the max heart rate on my garmin? It was obviously following the age calculation for max HR.

And you would be 20 years younger in the leggings department! I must get on those websites you mentioned and get with the programme :)

Love this! A short tickle πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Love that you did it to keep to three runs a week too. This consistency is really important. The admiration for you from her is a lovely touch too 😊😊😊

Yes it was - its these small things that really help. I must say most of the runners are pretty nice - either ignore me (obvs going for a PB...) or I get a smile. Its some of the non-running younger folk that are a bit of a pain but I've only once had someone take the mick. My first 5k after injury actually - and I was so pleased with myself that I just grinned at him trying to imitate my very slow nico nico action (was knackered at the end of the run).

in reply to Fionamags

That's the best way, just grin 😊 you're doing and he's not! A 3 mile run will take it out of those who poke fun from the sides.

Sounds a happy run πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ πŸ˜ƒ. Love the VO2 max. Mine seems to be a law unto itself. I’ve only been paying attention to it recently because it had aged me a little, although now it has suddenly knocked 3 years off my age !! πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ (but I’ll take that πŸ˜‰)

Yay! Definitely its absolutely right!!!! 🀣🀣🀣

Hi Fionamags, I really like your description of your run as a β€˜light tickle’ ... conjures up an image of a light footed, easy run, and topped with a great smile from a fellow human, no wonder you ended the run 10 years younger πŸ˜ƒ wonderful πŸ€—

Thanks. Lovely also because it was my first run back on the canal since lockdown - my fav c25k route.

Great running Fionamags. I've gave up with Garmin vo2 max . Mine starts going up then I do a run with lots of hills and it goes down again.

Its great when another runner gives you a wave and i always seem to manage a wave and a smile . πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Great to get out for another run on your recovery. You weren't injured for long, so you'll be back to those longer runs soon I'm sure.

All the monitoring of fitness age/heart rate etc always makes me feel jittery, so I don't monitor anything, but perhaps I should think about it. Just don't want to get a shock!

A great post Fionamags!! Nice to hear you're keeping it up and making progress. Hope you felt ok. How are the exercises going?? πŸ€”

Hmmm well if you followed my exchange with SueAppleRun you'll have seen me mention our "mission". But I'm afraid you're the only one actually getting on with it.... I really Do need to get some sort of strength routine established

Haha I did see that. I've managed to do mine everyday til yesterday and then work and home got in the way. It's difficult isn't it. I'm sure we'll feel the benefit when we do manage to get some consistency πŸ€”πŸƒπŸƒ

I bet it feels good when you’re VO2 increases, mine continually goes down the more I run, I’m now 55 was 47 when I started using the garmin.

Fionamags profile image
FionamagsGraduate10 in reply to Reggit

I don't really understand how it works tbh. I suspect it slavishly follows heart rate though. So if you've been working hard on a higher HR that might be why its going down? Maybe need to adjust max HR?

That’s great Fionamags.. lovely to connect in person with other runners rather than virtually too.

Thank you so much for posting about the VO2 max.. I had never heard of it. so I googled it, then worked out where to find it on the Garmin.. and it seems to think I’m much younger than the reality, so I’m absolutely delighted! 😊

Take it, take it!!!! How are you getting on? Are you managing to run at the moment?

PeggySusi profile image
PeggySusi

Definitely I’ll take it.. but I suspect it’s because I’ve set it up wrong..πŸ˜‚.. I’m not running again.. yet.. because I’ve been avoiding the impact on my stump - but I’ve just completed a distance challenge fundraiser for Limbpower charity. I’ve walked 160kms/ 100 miles in the last month.. so I’m feeling pretty good..😊

Wow that's amazing! Nothing holds you back, does it? You'll have the benefit of that fitness when you get back to running.

Having been decorating for days (still not finished πŸ˜’) I'm trying to catch up with all the posts I've missed!

Sound like a lovely run, it's so good when other acknowledge your efforts.

Seems like your recovery is well on the way.

Thanks Dijep. Yes I'm feeling good. Have lost some fitness but I'm taking it slowly. Inspired by Fab450 and Willow & Sola I've started one of the Garmin 10k plans. I think working back up to it along with the various training tips can only be a good thing. Hopefully I'll get a bit faster and fitter along the way too.
