Morning run and reminiscing about shoes

Quick run over my hill this morning, which first showed me it’s beautiful side view before facing me straight on.

On my run, I reminisced about my running-shoe journey, that started with C25k. And I surprisingly fondly still think of the ancient pair of tennis shoes, that got me to the C25k finish line.

I could only let them go their way (into the bin), once I had taken a photo (portrait) of them. 🤣🤣🤣

So what has been your shoe journey like? Do you think fondly of your first pair? Do you have a secret photo of your favourite pairs stashed away in your wallet? 🤣 (ok, I don’t, but am close to that point!)

Happy running, everyone!

I think I may have decided to buy the "try before I buy" pair from online, after trying on three different pairs in a shop yesterday. It does seem very extravagant to buy a second pair before my first pair are even half worn out!

Extravagant or essential for your basic running kit …. hmmm ….. 😉

🍏🤣 Love my trusty black ASICS & order the same pair online every time, because I know they fit, are comfy, take my insoles and are approved by my Orthopaedic Podiatrist. Boring I know but my feet are happy 🤣

My first running shoes were walking boots. I almost feel I have come full circle as I am finding it increasingly difficult to persuade myself into my running socks and shoes (if I can find them) rather than just cracking on in my Keen sandals. Winter may change that! (I am also wondering if I just need some new shoes to tempt me... I haven't forgiven my second pair of Vivos for ripping my feet a few times and the Freets are comfortable but do feel eeriely like running in (well fitting) slippers.)

We got rid of 30+ pairs of running/walking/training shoes belonging to my father (my mother once caught him trying to do a 'cut and shut' job on two pairs with a lot of shoe glue!)

lol, maybe your father was on to something. The Altra brand started off as a special shoe-fixing place, which had a service of taking off the soles of shoes off and putting on their own zero-drop versions.

I started my C25k with a pair of black trainer type golf shoes a friend had given me as he'd bought them and they were too tight, cost £20 in a sale, frre to me 😂. They lasted my first 2 weeks as I was on holidays but as my achilles tendons were giving me so much pain as soon as I got home I bought a pair of black entry level Asics Gel9 in the sale for £40 and after seeking advice have strobothane heel inserts. After I completed C25k I treated myself to a pair of black Asics Metarun's, again in the sales for £120 a 50% off bargain. My wife commented how surprised she was that I bought black 'trainers' when there were so many brightly coloured shoes. Feeling I needed a pair of trail shoes in the wardrobe I spotted some Higher States in the sales so I bought a bright pair of orange and yellow ones. Needing to break them in I put them on to wander around our town visiting a couple of hostelries as is our want, I was promptly told to change them or she wouldn't walk with me 🤣🤣🤣

🤣🤣🤣 the moral of the story is ….. every runner needs more than just one pair of shoes to cater for every occasion! I knew it! 🤣🤣👍🏽

I feel your wife's pain, Mr Grumpy also insists on wearing his very bright hokas on non-running occasions. I might follow Mrs OMR's example and refuse to be seen with him.

Great idea for a thread. My first pair was a pair of adidas I'd got in the sale for pilates (couldn't do the balances in bare feet 😬 )

They were all I had when I started c25k, but as luck would have it they were in fact running shoes (I had no idea, although the fact they said "RUN" on the insole was a clue 🤦).

They did me very well until week 5 when they started to rub (not enough room in the toebox for hot feet).

Moved on to a pair of adidas ultraboost. I tried them on in a running shop and found the same ones in tkmaxx for £16 but I ended up with heel pain so my bargain of the century didn't work out.

Now I have my beloved sauconys. They are worn out really but the new version is NOT THE SAME!!!

I'm not running very far at the moment so they'll do for now but the search continues...
