Good morning everyone. Well it is a gorgeous day here. And it is time for (not) parkrun again. I cheated and did mine yesterday evening. I ran a 10K last Sunday and on Monday I somehow managed to accidentally burst the little toe on my right foot when I stubbed it off a leg of my bed. Ouch, it more than doubled in size and put my running on pause for a few days. So I attempted a 5K yesterday as I am away all day today. An attempt unfortunately was all it was. I ended up slowly running and walking my way around. My time was a very slow 33:54.
I called myself damienair because my name is Damien and I fly a Microlight. Due to Covid I have not flown since just before lockdown, my only flight this year. I got out yesterday evening late just so as to get the plane ready. Oisin came with me and we managed a little flight. Today I’m away to fly it up to get a permit Revalidation done. It will be checked over by an inspector. I’m looking forward to it, it should be a lovely day.
Happy running everyone. I’m looking forward to reading all the run reports when I get home this evening.

Lovely to see a pic of young Oisin, Damien. We have seen lots of micro lights down here this summer, and more obvious as there鈥檚 no aircraft to drown them out. Yours is like A hornet 馃悵 . Good luck with your examination, and that pesky toe. These things are sent to try us,
As RUnaround Sue says, 33:54 may seem very slow to you, but I鈥檇 be very happy with that.
(Not) parkrun completed after the parkrun quiz, and posted separately.
Hello I'm back!😀 I said in last week's thread that I wasn't running as I thought I might have high hamstring tendinopathy ( damage to the tendons attaching the hamstring to the pelvis), so managed to get an appointment with a physio on Tuesday. Her diagnosis differed from mine(!) - she said my hamstrings were very tight, but this was a piriformis issue stemming from my lower back . An hour and some fairly intensive treatment later, I came away with the usual sheet of exercises - she also said I could continue to run, gently!👍I have another appointment next week and so far so good.
Hence at 5.30 this morning, to avoid the heat, you would have seen me running around the local roads, with the outcome of 30.29 - very pleasant!
Sorry to hear about your toe Damien - very painful. No wonder you wanted to get up, up and away!
Oh wow, what a day to be able to go up into those skies - it’s so clear. Hope the inspection goes ok.
We got out earlier today but it was still 18C at 7.30am. Lots of dog walkers also out and the traffic was busier as we get lots of visitors on lovely days. Still, we made it round. Jacob & Marley are my new parkrun shoes and are considerably bouncier than Randall & Hopkirk, my old Ghost 11s, so it was a more comfy ride. The Ghost 11s are definitely now deceased!
It was a toughee again but got round in 28:10 so happy with that. Not sure the gasping for breath when I stopped was a good look though:
I blame oxygen deprivation on our performance in today’s parkrun quiz - 6/15 and I managed to get Dexy’s and Vassos’s names wrong when I tried to say hello to them 😳
Well done on that fab time TailChaser ! Those new shoes are propelling you along nicely!🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
I didn’t run today having just returned from Devon and having eaten our body weight in delightful food over the last few days. I’ll drag myself out tomorrow. 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Thanks cheeky, they’re new old shoes that are in semi retirement. Amazing how much you feel the difference when you have three pairs of differing ages. Randall & Hopkirk are only good for the gym now, if that.
Good luck with your run tomorrow. We’ve spent this week running off our holiday food too. Now we’re getting far too tempted by the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ offers in town so it may get worse before it gets better 🤣
That is a really nice photo of Oisin beside your Microlight "Concord Jumbo Jet", lol, sorry about your toe, I hope it heals soon.
So I completed my 8th (not) parkrun in a slower time than last week of 35.06, I always consider it a bad run if I don't run a sub 35 minute 5K BUT I actually enjoyed my run today and no runners overtook me so it wasn't all that slow or bad. I hope you have a lovely flight in your Microlight, enjoy.
How lovely to be able to go flying. Ultimate social distancing activity! Well, as Shake-and-run is on her way back to the UK for a few days, we rescheduled our (not) parkrun for yesterday morning. 19c at 7.30 before it shot up to 40c by mid afternoon. Long end of the lake this week and we did run it separately as it was an “official” run and I am a little faster! My time was 31.20.
We went out a bit early but it was still hot by the time we finished. The usual route followed by the usual breakfast so all very pleasant.
Not surprisingly my time was nowhere near yours Damienair but was my 5k pb for the week.
During this hot weather I am just making sure that I run 3 x 5k each week for the (not) parkrun page. I may be well down the table for my times, higher up for Age % but still at the top for total number of (not)parkruns at my local.
You are a brave man Damien; you wouldn't get me up in one of those.......
Meanwhile, back on the planet earth, I had a nice little 5k this morning. 33:08 which was 28 seconds quicker than last week, but I achieved the increased pace by increasing cadence and keeping stride length below 1m in place of the 1.14 m which I think was part of my knee troubles. Like learning to run again in a way, but I have developed a good feel for the right stride length over the past few weeks and increased spm is just happening naturally. So add to that flat white and brownie, the job's a good 'un as they say up here! Nice bit of cloud up here today...good for running but not so good for flying! 🙂
Sounds like a great couple of days for you Damien! Running and flying. Yep. 😍 I love the photo of your microlight and Oisin. Maybe he’ll follow in your footsteps? 😀
No (Not) PR for me this week. We’ve just back from a few days on Dartmoor where we took Flossie and did lots of walking (and eating and drinking ......), and I didn’t even take my trainers or yoga mat. A lovely break though and I’ll go for an early bimble tomorrow. 🏃♀️🐾
Good luck with the flying damienair and take care of that toe. Ouch!😣
I did my Not Parkrun in Bognor Regis this morning. I started out at 7:00am before it got too hot. I’ve been doing speed intervals which have helped my speed immensely and I’d recommend them.
Anyway, as for my run it was relatively cool compared to the rest of the day and I got round in 27:47, with each km being under 6:00. Very pleased with that and it’s my second fastest Parkrun, after Clermont Waterfront in Florida last year😀👍
