I’m away on a family break this week in Sligo on the west coast of Ireland. I have not ran since last Saturday but have been cycling and walking some beautiful Forrest trails and beaches. I’m going to run 5K this morning on my own. I’m looking forward to it. I’ll just run 2.5K away from the hotel and 2.5K back again. If the tides out I’ll do some of it down on the beach. It’s been rough weather wise with storm Ellen passing over but the kids are having a ball. Enjoy all your 5K (not) parkrun runs too everyone and I look forward to reading all the run reports later.

We did. It stopped raining when we left the house, a few drops as we walked back up the hill after our 5k. We sat in the cafe watching the rain pouring down then it stopped again by the time we had finished our bacon butties. We got back home and it poured down again.
You were blessed. I went for a long walk down along a beach with the boys, probably 6K in total. The heavens open up for the last Kilometre. We were completely drenched. Yet again. We feel like just wearing our wetsuits all the time now.😂 It’s one of those holidays where your looking forward to it being over and getting home.
I’m back. Ran in wind and rain. But it was very enjoyable running along the coastline. Not bad, I ran it in 32:30, an improvement. Still a long way off the sub 30’s which I was consistently running a few months ago, but I know I’ll be back there soon. Happy running everyone,
It looks gorgeous there Damien. Our holidays always have a similar threat of misery like yours. It’s always memorable though and no matter what the kids love it. I would say it’s partly because the family is all together but there’s been a lot of that this year so maybe it’s just because it’s an adventure.
You’ll get back to that sub 30 I’m sure. Hope the shoes are behaving themselves now x
Nicola only went off to a laundromat earlier to dry some of the clothes. Whilst she was gone I went for a walk down along a beach with the boys. On our return with 1K to go the heavens opened and we were drenched again. Nicola arrived back just in time to see us return looking like drowned rats. We could only laugh.
Looks like a delightful place Damien. So tranquil. Enjoy your lovely run today. 🏃🏃
Mine wasn’t so lovely, and the weather didn’t behave. Windy and still pretty humid, and it made my run feel harder than it should. Mustn’t complain though, as I’m still consistently quicker than last year running on the Common - today’s (Not) PR time was 35:41.
My cool down walk was ... let’s just say .... wet. 💦💦💦 It began to bucket down at the furthest point from the car so I broke into a jog. Yet again I arrived home soaked to the skin with the smell of wet dog in my nostrils! 🐾🐾 Could have done with the cooling deluge during my 5k, but there you go! 😅
Well done Cheeky. I’m just back after a lovely breakfast. Currently stuck in the room as it is bucketing down outside. I was lucky on my run as I didn’t get too wet. Hope you’ve cooled down, warmed up and dried out since. It took me ages to cool down this morning.
Good run CC and well done for braving the rain. You can imagine how the smell of wet Old English Sheep Dog lingers with two thick coats to dry out! That said, she has just had her first clip since lockdown began. We decided that we needed to start again with her coat, so she looks more like a greyhound at present. Soon grow though.🙂
Oh my word BC, I have no idea how you manage with your hairy beast - I bet she doesn’t know herself when she’s been clipped! 🥰😅 Flossie has a typical Lab coat. Short but very dense, so consequently she takes forever to dry! 🐾🐾🐾🐾
Good morning Damien, I am glad that you enjoyed your (not) parkrun today along the coast, the worst of Storm Ellen was in the south of Ireland around the Cork area.
I ran my 10th (not) parkrun in a time of 33.49 which I am pleased with because I thought it would be +35 minutes in the early stages but I did quicken up on the last two kilometers, the weather is not too bad with a light south west wind and 14C temperatures, enjoy the rest of the weekend. 😊 🏃🏾
Very well done Al. Great running. It’s been windy and raining all week. Weather is absolutely miserable. Typical Irish summer Holiday.😂 Bord Failte always complain about the Irish flying away to the Sun. we have to. An Irish Holiday is miserable 😩, but the kids are loving it. We are trying our best to give them the best experience we can. Oisin said yesterday that this is his best Holiday ever, Nicola and I just winked at each other.
Thanks TailChaser, I enjoyed my run this morning, I notice looking at my time on Mapmyrun it's 33.48, not 33.49 as shown on the Parkrun Website, however, I'll just leave it at 49, what's the difference between seconds, it's not the Olympics where a fraction of a second is the difference between a gold and silver medal.
Morning all! We had to get ours in early this morning as we’re off to see my parents who we haven’t been able to see since January.
We were supposed to run as a family but eldest kitten had a poorly tummy (hmmm...maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned the hill last night 🤔) so it was just Katnap, youngest kitten and me.
Youngest kitten was a great distraction and really helped keep my heart rate down. I’m also much less achy today and my Achilles are finally starting to feel better, so it was the best run I’ve had in weeks! Despite the wind I really enjoyed it! They both beat me of course but that is how it should be 😁
28:11 according to my watch so much more like my normal speed.
Now sitting in the car, we have just done the parkrun quiz which was very usefully late. Still got a rubbish score (6/15!) but very much appreciated the Warwick Racecourse question. I volunteer Windoze as chief bucket holder for the lead horse 🤣🤣
Well done TC - I chuckled at the Warwick racecourse question as well. I’ve driven past it 100s of times but never been inside! I got the same score as you 6/15 although most of answers were guesses as the reception was so bad I couldn’t hear most of the questions!
Thank you OG 😊 We haven’t run it yet but I walked three laps of it with a friend a month or so back, it’s a nice course. We always guess most of the questions, we just seem to be getting worse at guessing. I don’t think being able to hear them would make much difference 🤣
Well done for running before setting off and doing the parkrun quiz, if a little late this morning 😂😂. UTS and I both got 7/15 this morning . Vassos always gives the answers of the ones I already know, not fair.
Morning everyone! We had a heavy downpour last night in the Dordogne, so this morning dawned cool (16c felt decidedly chilly😂), misty and slightly damp underfoot, but dry. Shake-and-run and I met up at 8.00 at our usual place by the lake, sun trying to break through, a light mist hanging over the surface and herons gliding along looking for breakfast. Twice round the short end of the lake in 31.48 for me, a little longer for S&R. Strava says we had 92% humidity and, boy, did it feel like it 🥵 Anyway, coffee and pain au raisin in the square in Eymet and we are set up for the weekend. Happy running 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️
When I stayed with a friend in Paris a variety of freshly baked pain au all sorts from a nearby bakery was the best way to start the day! Even chocolate at breakfast time was ok!
Well done for braving the elements Damien. I have been rather busy this week, so this was my first run since Tuesday's 10k. My legs felt pretty stiff first thing, particularly behind the knees, so I decided to do all of my exercises before venturing forth (nothing to do with the rain; honestly 🙂). Result; legs felt much better and the sun came out! As planned, I went for one of my easier hill routes; just a notch up from my pretty flat rehab route.. Everything was really smooth and comfortable. This was a slow 5k at 34:57, but the 61m elevation gain didn't even register as a problem. My legs are definitely much stronger. I just need to get the cardio vascular bit sorted. VO2 max docked me a point😡😡. Next week will be my first comeback attempt at my 151m elevation gain trail, which used to be a weekly "staple" as part of a 5k. No doubt VO2 Max will go down again ... 🙂
Very well done. I did a lovely 6K walk yesterday morning which was up around a forest trail loop beside a mountain. I was tempted to try it this morning as my run, loads of hilly climbs. But took a coastal option instead.
I really like coastal runs on our favourite Isles of Scilly, so I would probably have made the same choice......these hill efforts are for medicinal purposes only! 🙂
Thanks Dexy. Still a little way to go but I feel as though I am getting there; taking nothing for granted! Can see you approaching fast in my rear view mirror👏👏👍👍
That looks fabulous damienair - glad you’re able to get out and enjoy a run in it! My 5km was in standard OGR time of 50:03 this morning. Pretty breezy here today with winds around 20 mph - another OGR norm! I tacked on an extra 2k as part of week 3 on the magic plan - which was also neatly done at std 10mins per km . Is that my pace for evermore I wonder?! Happy running folks!
Great run for you today OGR, I am so glad that you enjoyed it, it is quite hard running in a strong wind, you did very well indeed, well done, good luck for your magic plan. 😊 🏃🏾
Looks beautiful Damien - shame about the rain and wind but as you say, not surprising in Ireland. Glad the kids are enjoying it .
My (not) parkrun this morning was uneventful - I'm still taking it relatively easy following a further session with the physio this week. A brief shower just before I left, but otherwise dry and a time of 29.54.
Earlier in the week I'd ventured onto the Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun course - prior to lockdown we'd been on a rather muddy temporary route for a couple of months due to building work. That's now finished thank goodness, so Thursday was the perfect opportunity to try out the original course. I was a bit worried that, after a very rainy Wednesday, mud would still be in charge, but apart from a few puddles, all was fine and 29.32 was the result. [Watch this space for a bit of (not) parkrun tourism soon from Dexy5 and the rest of the Southsea motley crew!]😀
However my 'official' (not) parkrun time this week comes from Tuesday (29.04) - before my physio had words with me!😜
