I set my alarm for 7am, woke ten minutes before it was due to go off and then ignored it completely and lay there for another 45 minutes “ planning my run”..🙄. Eventually set off about 8.45 and it was 19 degrees and sticky by then.
I’d given myself 4 days rest because
A) I’d pushed myself a bit last month to reach my target and
B) my hip has really been painful the last couple of days.
C) I’ve had the added nuisance of a clicked ankle which seems to have settled mainly now.
Last night my Pilates class was concentrating on thighs and boy could I feel it this morning!! So I set off slowly and steadily and ran towards my old original 5k route... past the industrial estate, along the road towards the secondary school, back down Abbey Road and then through the cut through, back towards town and across the bottom of town to finish in Coronation Street. It was still fairly quiet even at that time of day but there were a couple of other runners about. One in particular lives somewhere near me( I quite often see her passing my house) and we smiled and said hi as she ran towards me and we passed. Then a bit further on she had obviously swung round and our paths crossed again.. another smile exchanged.... and then again... and a rueful nod exchanged. .....5 times we passed each other in the end and we were laughing by now. She’s about half my age and a fair bit faster but she must have doubling back on herself again and again. She eventually ran past me and along the edge of the road towards home and I went one street over and finished my run partway along. It did break things up a bit though spotting her so many times. And my hip and ankle held up too so that was a bonus.
Then once I was home I beat myself up over the fact that my June 5k was at 8.00 min/km, my July 5k was at 8.17 and my August 5k was at 8.27 pace!!!! Mind you it was about 12 degrees in June when I ran, about 15 in July and 19 today so I’ll settle for that. I’m not pushing myself this month as I have my steroid injection for my hip on Monday next so I doubt I’ll be doing much after that for a while. Hope it sorts it out 🤞
Happy running folks 😁🏃♀️😜
