unexpected encounter

I’m struggling a bit with my running at the moment. My head wants to with all this glorious weather but my body is not playing ball. usually I’m a alternate days runner but I’m finding it hard to run more than once a week. Mainly due to A the liver cyst I’m waiting to have removed at last and B the Bursitis/ GTS which has gradually worsened lately.

I have done all the exercises the physio gave me religiously and a few more. I do my Pilates 3/4 times a week and try to keep mobile but it’s the waking up at night every time I roll over that is getting to me. Just cannot get comfortable to sleep and hence too tired to run.

But this morning I was determined and although I was later than I’d have wished I set off for a little trot. It was already pretty warm and I’d sunscreened myself luckily and after a 5 min warm up walk I started running. The hip was a dull niggle in the background but bearable. And I managed to run for 12 mins before I stopped for a minute walk.

I was on the Tarka Trail as usual and it is glorious at the moment , everything is green and bursting with blossoms on the trees and wildflowers all along either side of the track. All the birds are doing their mating calls and dances and it felt very summery. I decided I didnt have it in me to do the usual 5k and was intending to veer off at Pottington and probably round it up to about 30 minutes.

Then in the distance I spotted another garishly clad runner ( green, white and pink daisies on her top and something else ridiculous on her leggings)and I had bright orange top and sunflower covered capris) heading towards me. Her arms went up in a mad wave and I realised it was my daughter coming towards me!! We very rarely see each other when running even though we use the same stretch of trail most of the time so this was a treat. As she drew level with me I went to high 5 her but she said “no I’ll come with you now” and she turned and joined me. This was really nice as we haven’t run together for ages. She is too fast for me really but she is recovering from tonsillitis and a summer cold so she was a bit slower today

So we ran on and finished off my 30 mins chatting and it seemed much easier running with her than the first half felt. She walked back with me to mine ( to see her cat). Neither of us had run at our best and my hip is certainly complaining now but it was fun to run with her again. She waited with me while I showered and we had a big cold drink each and then we walked to hers for her to shower and now she is cooking protein pancakes for us both. Yummy!!

Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather. It’s getting a little hot for me and I had to open my greenhouse door as it had reached 50 Degrees in there and even my little black cat thought it was too big for her in there. Still the tomatoes peppers and cucumber are enjoying it. 😁

she took the pic while I wasnt looking!!

annoyingly last night my hip didn’t hurt at all……but I woke at 3.30 with a banging headache and bunged up nose. Had to get up and take paracetamol and anti histamines and it’s ok now but I am so tired again 😢

Hi Limberlou

What a lovely surprise to bump into your daughter and have a run together. I hope you get your surgery soon and your hip improves. I’ve just recovered from hip bursitis, did lots of physio and have started running again. Horrible when it disturbs your sleep. Hope yours goes soon.

I’ve had it on and off since I ran my HM in 2019. Strangely , after I’d decided I was definitely going back to the dr today to see if she would do another steroid injection , it didn’t hurt last night or so far today 🤞🤞

I hope the Bursitis stays away for you. It’s annoying and painful.

The physio thought my muscles glutes, hamstrings etc… were too weak to cope with the amount of running I’d been doing. So I’ve built the muscles up over a few months & started running again.

I do a lot of Pilates and we do a lot for glutes etc but being hyper mobile my body tends to decide to use completely different muscles to the ones we should be targettingz
