A way to catch up

Monday morning and it's still warm and sunny here so.. . Better go for a run, I've had a right miserable few days so I felt I needed to do something silly and I wanted to see the sea.Decided that I'd have one more go at the 15 minute run that's run 1 week 2 of NRC HM plan, I've done this 3 times now and it's still not ticked as done and I'm a bit fed up with it. I also wanted to do run 2 week 2 speed run but not on the paths round here, driveways curbs and pot holes don't make for much speed.

Set off the app and the music and the watch and walk down the road. Head for the sea, 5 minutes walk and 10 minutes run and save that one. That gets me to the seafront. Set up the next run and take it slowly for the 5 minute warm up. The view is glorious, the sea bright blue. So here we go

1 minute mile pace, 2 minute 5k pace 3 minute 10k pace 2 minute 5k pace 1 minute mile pace and done. Phew 😅

Whoops, i misjudged where to turn, I walked the recovery minute between each one, I stopped to take photos and um I'm quite a way from home.

So I walked a bit ran a bit and when I was nearly home I passed a young (for me) man cutting the grass in front of his house, he stopped the mower and started saying something. I took out my earbuds and he said "I saw you running in Worthing and thought you were going great and here you are still running, well done,!" I said thank you and grinned the rest of the way home.

Both runs are now ticked off on the plan so I'm happy.

I've got a couple of hours before I'm out walking with my neighbour and then a couple of hours more before I'm taking a few runs round the field with the dog and daughter, it's a good day today.

Remember, when times aren't great and days pass in a fog of why bother it's not forever, there will be sunshine and running and grinning again, or even wind and rain and running as long as there's grinning, oh and music.

Great that you’ve got those runs ticked off, Sola - but more importantly you’ve restored some balance and are feeling good again 👏👏👏🏃‍♀️

Thank you Jools, yes, I need the running and walking at the moment and it's certainly making a difference, this weather helps but I'm wondering when I'm going to get time to just lay in the sun

sorry to hear you have had a few miserable days! Glad you have climbed out of it today! Menopause does the same to me you do have to clear the fog running walking just being outside on a sunny day helps!

It's weird living alone now and some days I just don't know why I bother but my great neighbour gets me out walking most days and I run just b cause it was part of the plan, then some days I find the joy in running and being able to

Glad you are feeling better after your run Sola , whilst running can't solve all of life's problems it can help you deal with them. One step at a time, no pun intended!

It certainly can and thanks,

And there’s nothing like a compliment from a complete stranger to put a smile on your face Sola.

I ran by the sea today too and it looked so beautiful in the sunshine, the wind didn’t seem as cold either.

You are right there Dexy, the wind wasn't cold at all by the time I got out

Well done . That sea looks so enticing just paddling for me, can’t swim. A nice compliment for you as well , it gives you a wee bit bounce on your step. 🌞

sometimes it just takes a random compliment from someone we don't know to put a smile on our faces - it may not last long, but it's still good!

And he's right, you are doing great, plus you got those two runs ticked off which is a bonus if nothing else!

Keep on keeping on Sola!

It’s amazing what a difference can be made by a friendly word and a smile.. I always greet people when out walking or running, and feel so deflated if my smile is met with a blank stare or a scowl.. I’m so glad the chap with the mower made the effort to tell you what he was thinking and that it made you feel better.

Hope tomorrow will be mostly a good day with sunshine to burn off the fog.

I'm getting there thanks, it's been a busy day, I'm hoping tomorrow to be able to lay in the sun for a while, so my body and feet can start to catch up with my legs arms and shoulders, in spite of high factor sun cream those parts are getting really tanned, 🤣🤣🤣

You’re doing so well. That was my run yesterday. I can see how you ended up further that you expected-I found it really hard to judge where all the intervals would finish. Mine took me round and round the village!

You’ve had so much to deal with and it’s so understandable that there will be good days and tougher days. Hold on to those grins. We’re all with you ❤️

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to MissUnderstanding

Thank you so much, I can't mope, but there are plenty of tears, there is laughter too, I honestly thought I'd finish that run and be back at the turn off from the sea front but nope I was ages away, I so enjoyed that run, I've got one more speed run, one recovery run and one 6.4k run to try and fit in this week, then C25k run 2 week 1with granddaughter in the morning and C25k run 2 week 2 with neighbour in the afternoon tomorrow, but Thursday I will do very little, maybe a bit more gardening. ❤️

You must have been flying along to have covered so much distance! That’s one of the nicest bits of the speed runs. Taking the brakes off and just going for it. I’m really liking being on the same week as you on the NRC. I’ve got a fair amount of strength physio to do which has to take priority so I might fall behind. I’m making the most of it while it lasts!

I might try the other speed run tomorrow depending on how work falls. Last time. I remember that it was absolutely relentless but brilliant at the same time! You absolutely deserve that quiet Thursday with all your running plans!!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to MissUnderstanding

I would rest tomorrow if I wasn't committed to others, I didn't think I'd like the speed runs but they are exhilarating and I find I can run faster for longer, I might go off plan at the weekend as I really want to do another 10k. I doubt if you will fall behind as week 1 took 12 days, I've increased squats and doing some arm exercises, I must be a bit mad but I just love being outside in the sunshine 😁

What a super positive thought to hold on to; "...remember, when times aren't great and days pass in a fog of why bother it's not forever, there will be sunshine ..."

Not just a thought related to running either...

Your run(s) sound extremely interesting and what an absolutely beautiful day and beautiful run location.

The comment form the young man too... affirmation, were any needed , of your strength , your fitness and your slow and steady moving forward...

Very well done my friend xxx

Wow-amazing that you are ‘coaching’ , or maybe for the others it’s partner running -yourself , your neighbour and your grand daughter.

Your fitness level and commitment are impressive!

Thank you but not really, yes partner running to encourage others, my level of commitment is way more than my level of fitness

What a fabulous place to run - I went to the beach yesterday and had a nap instead of a run. I love the sea, either to look at or to listen to - so therapeutic. You're doing so well and your fitness levels must be rising . Seems like you're exercising all the time, and why not? I take my (sun) hat off to you 😎

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to 59er

Thank you, a nap on the beach sounds perfect, I've been doing a lot lately, but will ease off a bit over the next few days, got to be sensible and while the sun is out I'm planning some serious sunbathing 😂
