The achievements of running.

Just been reading and thinking about Timotea’s PB with the 5k. That’s the thing about running - the range of different achievements that each person can experience.

A quicker time, an enjoyable run, a longer distance, longer times, a quicker recovery, a hill tackled, a gremlin ignored, a playlist enjoyed, new learning from a podcast, a medal, a new route/road conquered, new people met (virtually or real-life), better health, better procrastination (!!)... the list goes on.

So, whilst I’m still a newbie, I reckon that’s what keeps folk at it, regardless of your ‘athleticism’, it’s all the very personal and individual achievements that come from running.

Absolutely definitely agree with you.

Gosh. I was thinking this while running on Sunday. It's actually a great leveller too. Every one may have a different reason to run, a different motivation. We all applaud each other and everyone's achievements are recognized.

What makes us on here a 'family' though is that we all lace up, step out the door and go. What happens next is our own story and adventure that we share comunally and I for one adore it!

And I absolutely, definitely agree with you! 😂

The point you make about applauding each other, I get really happy about other people’s achievements on this forum.

Spot on Leosmit. I’ve been running for just over 2 years, and I can honestly say I’ve never ever been part of such an inclusive community, all thanks to these forums. I don’t know if any people/posts/replies don’t make it past admin, but the camaraderie and support from everyone on here is immense. We all cheer each other on, whether we’re Mo Farahs or the slowest snail - and everyone in between. It simply doesn’t matter. 🥰 So refreshingly different from my previous pastime.

It’s a fantastic sport and we’re so fortunate we’re able to do it. 🏃‍♀️💙🏃❤️😀

I’m intrigued, what was your previous pastime?

I had horses, and there were some nasty characters both online and in real life! 👎

That’s wick. I think there’s enough hardship in life without folk being deliberately awkward!

That’s why I love this forum. Everyone’s achievements are celebrated.

I first posted about a PB on here because I wanted someone else to be excited for me. My non running friends weren’t really interested.

Totally get you with this. I want to share my wee successes but don’t want real life running friends! Like being out on my own. This forum perfect for that.

Great post. Every run has a little something... even the ones that suck while we are running them!

Agree with you completely 😊. There’s something in every run, even the hard ones that we don’t feel are giving us back anything at all for our efforts until we struggle to the end and complete it. Job done and probably one of the best feelings there is 😌.

Great post and totally agree. Achievements every time, even in the middle of things going on elsewhere in our lives where we may feel a little powerless, especially now. We are powerful when we run and we take control.

Brilliantly put! This forum keeps me going. I find great support in times of success and struggle and try really hard to pay it forward. I am a huge liner in running. Not even keen in running with my hubby but I do like sharing with my VRB's. I too have had bad experiences in dance as it's very competitive and cut throat but here has been so welcoming. I recommend it to everyone!

Cut throat is a great description Allbarron . That’s how I’d describe the horse world too; not everyone, but enough to be demoralizing, and I barely ever posted on the horsey forums. HU is 100% better in every way. ❤️

❤️ So true. It’s easy to get caught up in numbers (even if we say we’re not!!) so reading the posts brings perspective to all our runs and I’m sure I’m not the only one basking in the joy of others and learning to enjoy the small wins. Great post.
