5km and beyond, the New Year one... 1st to the 6th of January 💥

Hi there everyone and welcome to a new month and a new week of running :)

So it’s the brand new start of a brand new year..... so it’s time to refocus, regroup, and keep doing what we are here for..... RUNNING...!!

Fear not, here is a place to take five, and enjoy a chat about our running adventures, trials, tribulations, successes, achievements etc.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up, but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If you're a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi, without the pressure of a full post.

So pull up a chair, slip off the running shoes, and settle down for a nice bit of HU goss sharing :)

Happy running and happy panthering,

Oldfloss, Realfoodieclub, Ju-ju , Millsie-J and Roseabi

Happy New Year! I started RED January today. I won’t be running everyday but mixing it up with gym/yoga and walking. Also have my first 5 mile trail run in the dark on 12 Jan! Busy start to the year. 😁

Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

What’s RED January Ripcurl?

Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

It stands for Run Every Day but it’s actully do an activity every day. It’s for Mind charity - do a physical activity to improve and help your mental health.

Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Thank you for the link. I saw someone wearing the T-shirt at Parkrun on NYD, but didn’t know about Red January. It’s a good time to do it after the excesses of December and a great cause too. Enjoy the challenge.

OldflossAdministrator in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Brilliant.. I started that too, as have many of us!

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Ripcurlrana71

great idea and wow that's so exciting!!!

Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to ju-ju-

Thanks. x

Happy New Year A-team.

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to theoldfellow

And to you too :) :)

Happy New Year! As I completed c25k in December I am now looking to start aiming for 10K as I’ve been challenged to run a 10K event in April, I’ve also signed up to Red Jan. at the moment I’m running in a pair of Decathlon’s own brand of running shoe which cost £13 at the moment they seem fine providing I don’t run off road to much so I need to look for a very cheap brand of running shoe that can handle both terrain. Any suggestions appreciated.

Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Hidden

Well done. I’m afraid I can’t recommend any cheap brand of running shoe as I could only recommend Brooks Ghost 11 which I love!

But try this site : Www.sportsshoes.com

Good luck fellow Reder!

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Hidden

well done, and if they aren't causing any problems then they should be OK? I run off road in my normal shoes. it depends on how fast and how challenging it is...

Jay66UKGraduate10 in reply to Hidden

Decathlon’s own trail shoes are very good. Around £45 a pair.

Happy New Year everyone.

Ended 2018 with a 5k, started 2019 with a spot of parkrun volunteering then a fairly quick (for me) 10k. Moving towards 5 runs a week and a slow build from now quite comfortable 10ks to 16k/10 miles. No longer term or distance plan at the moment.

Recognising the weather will change soon, I’m trying to get out there as much as I can while I can.

Enjoy whatever run you do next x

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Jay66UK

good plan there :)

I think the festive distraction has taken its toll, lurgi, inactivity and extra lbs.🙈

Oh yes, Juju, the need to refocus and regroup.🤔

Decided I am going to return to running every day at the best presented weather opportunity and perhaps incorporate intervals during the outside run.

But I am going to do my 0600 gym strength, plyometric jumps and core session each day Mon-Frid and 0830 Sat-Sun, and drop

the treadmill sprints session,at least on outside running days.

Who knows what that will give me, but I do need the comfort of seeing results.🤔Review in a month.

Not looking to really commit to any programme or events.Just looking to do my own thing.🙈

Just have to be patient,🤔, get up get out, do it, and at least be content with the joy of running.

Atb to all with your 2019

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Tbae

good plan and I can see you are back to the gym so off to a great start :)

Happy New Year guys! ❤️

Started the New Year with a bang, doing the double at parkrun this morning. 💪 I haven’t moved much since! 😅

I intend to ditch a snail or 2 this year. My daughter informed me (helpfully?) that I looked very fresh after parkrun last Saturday, which she completed in 31.09 as a first timer! I think she was telling me to stop snailing about! So I will try. Right, I’ve said it. (😫)

I’d like to run 5k in 35 minutes or less and 10k in 1hr 15m or less. We’ll see!

Happy running lovely runners. 🏃‍♀️❤️🏃

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to cheekychipmunks

well done on Parkrun, and how kind of your daughter!!!

cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to ju-ju-

Yes I thought so (not!!) 😅😅

Happy New Year fellow runners. I graduated my Bridge to 10k in October and since the dark nights and mornings have come in I’ve only been doing 6 or 7k at most. I’m now following the plan again (loosely) to build back up to 10k and I’ve just signed up for my first ever official 10k race in Hull in June. So excited for all 2019 has in store x

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to lollytwist

that is exciting, great start to the year :)

Ended the year yesterday with a 10k pb, and started the year with a rather hungover Parkrun (the first since March 2017) and very close to my 5K pb.

Now need to find a race to sign up for to keep my focussed.

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Razouski

nice work!!!

Hi can I join in? Username is ambitious but I completed c25k in 2018 and somehow signed up to the vitality London 10k in May...let me know when the next bto10k starts!???

I am not speedy (parkrun pb just over 38 minutes...) but age is over 50 and I had never ran til c25k!

Looking forward to 2019 and achieving my 10k goal....

GoforitmamaGraduate10 in reply to Runningfit

You are going to nail it!

cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Runningfit

Similar to me in every way RF! I’m mid 50s, graduated C25K in August having never run properly before, parkrun PB 37.05, but more like 38 minutes regularly, I worked my way to 10k twice and signed up for my first race on May 5th!

Good luck this year! 👏👏

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Runningfit

yay a great decision to make, and you have lots of time to train. The next Magic 10 starts on the 11th of january and I will be posting about it very soon.....

Love that quote Ju.... Happy running everyone:) xxxx

Happy New year😁

Happy new year! After loitering here for some months I’m hoping to actually do the 10k plan when the next one starts! I’m booked to do 10k race in April so I need to be able to do it by then!

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to jimmers

yay, we start the next one on the 11th of january.... I will be posting about it shortly......

Happy New Running Year!

Last 2 weeks have been odd trying to fit in running between the weather and social activities, kids go back to school on Monday so I will be looking forward to getting back into a routine.

New Years Resolution is simply to get stronger in my 10k distance.

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Goforitmama

great plan, well done :)

Happy new year everyone. I did a lovely recovery 5km in the woods today. It felt like springtime. My weights classes don’t start back until next Week. My plan is running, core strengthening, Pilates and repeat. And enjoy same with the occasional race thrown In to speed me up a tad.

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to paulanoo

sounds good to me!!

Happy new year all.

I love your quote juju - how true.

New year’s resolution: to get stronger at what I’ve achieved so far.

Also to stay injury free for skiing in February.

🏃‍♀️ ⛷❄️⛄️

Happy new year! Started off with a short 20 minute run. Ended up running 2.7km and according to Strava PB for 400m; half a mile; 1km and a mile. Not bad going after a sleepless night and losing my mojo.

Onwards and upwards to the next challenge x

Hi all! Volunteered on NYD at Parkrun as backup timer, then ran a Freedom run, but definitely felt it! I’ve eased off for a couple of weeks and it tells. So back with intervals for me I think! Also signed up for a Resolution run 10K in April and a few triathlons. Just have to get my saddle sorted out on my new ‘Giant’ road bike 🥰

HNY everybody, having found running in 2018, I am really looking forward to 2019. I am breaking the habit of a lifetime by setting some New Years Resolutions and they are all running related, in no particular order they are :

Run 1000km in 2019 (did 500k in 7 mths Post graduating C25K)

Run a HM distance (furthest so far is 13k)

Improve my 5k PB (currently 29:24)

Improve my 10kPB (currently 1:03:53)

Keep off the IC!

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Berksrover

love the goals, and doable too

Hello everyone

I’ve been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks and thought it was time to say hello! I’ve been running on and off for a few years but the C25K has got me back into regular running. I’m planning on joining the next magic 10 group... it will be a challenge!!

Love this forum for the support and positivity x

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Inkyfingers

Yay you are most welcome to join, it starts on the 11th of January....There will be an invite post in the next couple of days....

Happy New Year to you all!

Started back 4 weeks ago after a horrible 7 weeks out with a knee injury but it's all starting to come back together again after a great sports therapist helped me out and I've entered a 10k for the end of Feb, another night one in November and am looking at some other stuff in between to keep me on track and make sure I don't waste what I built up before the knee gave way on me!

Took a new pair of shoes out on their first outing today too which seem to have no complaints about tagging along with me yet (!) so all in all am ready to literally put my best foot forwards! It will be 3 years since I completed C25K in a couple of weeks so I'm just thrilled that this has stuck with me. Happy running to you all out there and here's to a positive year :-)

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to wez70

That is great news...

Happy New Year Ju ju😊and all!

I'm running tomorrow! Just putting it out there😉...

Really looking forward to it!

Tbae in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Love it.

Enjoy it Jan.💥🏃‍♀️💥☄️

ju-ju-Administrator in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Yay Happy new Year to you too and I hope its a good one :)

BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to ju-ju-

Thank You. It was... a nice no pressure 5k on my favourite route... :) xx

Happy New year 😀 I have just got up to 10k with ju-ju 's plan a week or 2 ago. I wanted to do the Brighton HM in February, that was the plan.....but at the moment it seems a stretch. We will see. I want to keep going to parkruns , I am hooked. More cross training with swimming and paddle boarding when it gets warmer. Generally going to keep plodding along.

Gran4zGraduate10 in reply to Snuffy_T

Hi Snuffy_T I'm hoping to do the Brighton HM too...had a minor injury last couple of weeks, which is getting better, but it has put the training back somewhat. Might have to re-think my cunning plan 🤔. Good luck with your plans. We can do this, for sure...got to be positive about it 🌻🙂

Snuffy_TGraduate10 in reply to Gran4z

I just want to finish ...! There's a 3.5 limit before u have to run on the pavement. So it's well doable even if I have to walk some of it , no shame in a bit of walking I hope

Happy New Year to all. I am aiming to get back to regular running, my strategy has been to enter for a 10k in May so I will do your plan again ju-ju- and try to be running this distance comfortably well before May. Haven't been out yet in the New Year but tomorrow's forecast looks cold and clear so I may start off then. Hope everyone's plans work out well 😄

Happy New Year everybody!

First run of the year for me this afternoon. It was a slow and steady 5k as I’ve been getting over a bout of man flu 🤧

Happy new year all, and massive kudos to all those intrepid people who are trying RED.

I ran 17.5k today, forgot to put my insoles in, and have two blisters to remind me not to be so daft next time. Oh - and joggers nipple. Yup. :)

Happy new year. Had to slow my HM training down. After a week's rest I went back to the starting runs of C25K for a week, which I feel has done the trick...so getting back into the training plan, well back tracked a couple of weeks. I'm fairly determined to get to the start in February, but I am being realistic too - fairly, I'm so competitive with myself 😂😬.

Anyway, lovely to chat, thank you team for all your support, and happy running everyone, have a great and injury free 2019 🎉🌻

Happy New Year!!! I kicked it off with 5K on Tuesday and my first intervals yesterday. It was fun, although the average speed was not higher than the 5K one 😳🤔...

I will be joining ju-ju-‘s plan on Jan-11, it will be certainly magic to run 10K and enjoy it, after a previous lifetime of “I hate running” motto!! 😜

Looking forward to a year running with you all! 🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️🏃‍♀️
