I'd like to reach 8k this week on a longer nice and slow run. I've been doing my shorter runs around my local park on grass with a few hills, which is okay. I didn't make it this week to my second parkrun as it was chucking it down...I wussed out.!
I'm guilty of that too, the running I could have coped with but my impractical sports car doesn't have a hood worthy of the name so I would have got wet driving to and fro as well. I checked - 350 runners last week, 150 this so we weren't the only ones. BIG kudos to the volunteers who turned up regardless.
This is something we discussed last week, if youβve put your name down for the roster you canβt back out for bad weather. But at least you can put all your waterproofs on!
Hi juju, It was my first Saturday without running or volunteering at Parkrun since 18 August as we were away for the weekend. It just didnβt feel right. But I did visit a NT property at Osterley Park and discovered they hold Parkrun there so at least I got to walk on the course. What a beautiful place to run. Iβm tail walking this coming Saturday as UpTheStanley and I will be doing the Santa Run on Sunday. π€Άπ π»
Santa run on Sunday completed with daughter.......no mean feat as she had panic attack part way round.....very proud mum. New job started Monday, yeh.....but have to commute really early and no changing facilities so can't see how I'm going to get my runs in.....boo. Roll on boxing tomorrow night and getting back to Sunday long runs on my own.π
I completed the Couch to 5k in the summer and spent some time doing some consolidation runs. I well and truly dropped off the radar after that, as I had a huge amount going on (basically a separation and now divorce, but not looking for sympathy).
I remember making a lot of digital friends here who I followed and who provided motivation and feedback on my posts. I heard that they all migrated here, so if anyone's about here's a big Hello!.
Since I was last online, I've started making changes and pushing myself further. I started on a long weekend holiday at my parents on the Isle of Wight, I took a wrong turn on my run and went about 5 miles instead of 3. I walked the last one, but it occurred to me that I should try it again. I did and hit the full 5 miles. Then I really started thinking.
In the time since then, I have joined the "Suffolk Trail Runners" group and regularly do 6-6.5 mile trail runs (parts of them walking...), I've completed my first 10k race in the MoRunning event in November and I've also started some more interesting training with a plan to do Obstacle Course Racing next year.
Who'd have thought this from someone that could barely manage 30s running in March?
Anyway, I'm not here trying to brag, show off, or anything like that, just checking in with old friends to let them know I'm still running.
This is a great community that helped me through the original programme, and helped me find some focus in the stress and pain I was going through.
I got up to this level of running with no real gradual increases or a formal programme, so I could probably do with some guidance. These longer distances are tough at the moment.
It's still true that runners will always give you a smile or wave.
Wow! Well done! You've still achieved loads. ππππ Yep this forum is great. And I too love it when another runner acknowledges me! (Still feel like an imposter and not a proper runner! Haha) it spurs u on.
Hi Rob, just seen this, and I wanted to say well done, the decision to run is the best thing you can do. I started running after a separation and divorce, and it's honestly been a lifesaver for me, and this forum certainly has been. Keep going, you can do it!!
