Another 9k but boy it was hot!!!

I had an extra rest day as I have had real issues with my hip again. Finally rang drs and have an appointment with the physio and he’s going to decide if I need yet more exercises or if I can have a steroid jab to the affected area. ☹️ I’ve had them in my elbow and once in my jaw so I know what to expect but still.....😫

Anyway after one night and day of agony I dosed myself up and also drank a can of Thatchers Haze and Lemon ( highly recommended ) and slept like a log!! Think I stayed in one position all night and it was obviously the position that doesn’t hurt my hip as I had a totally painfree day yesterday. So after a lovely spinemobilising Pilates class last night and another great nights sleep I decided to run this morning.

Obviously this was the morning that my dickhead injured kitty cat decided he really had to get in my lap and snuggle down for a long cuddle instead of me going out nice and early. So eventually, when he decided to get off and go upstairs with the others, I left the house for my warm up walk at just past 9.30 and it was already warm!! And it got hotter!!!

I set myself a target for this month and I have already missed 2 running days so I really wanted to run at least 10k but it was obvious early on that that probably wasn’t going to happen. Legs were heavy and achey, left knee was whimpering, right ankle kept clicking so I compromised. And I “jeffed”. Ran 7 mins, walked one, and repeat. That way I managed to run for just over an hour and for 9k. I would have liked to make it a 10 but at about 7.5k my phone went and it was my sister to say she was outside my house and where was I? “ Running” I gasped. So I headed for home and cut it short.

Usually when I get in I have a routine..., kettle on, do some stretches, make coffee, more stretches, put porridge on low and shower, come down in towel with hair in towel, eat porridge then lie on bed with legs up the wall for 20 mins trying frantically to cool down before dressing and coming downstairs. But with my sister waiting for me, and obviously desperate to talk about something, that went to pot. I did manage the coffee and stretches and put the porridge on, found a couple of little sponge cakes for her to eat and then listened. She had had a bit of bad news and wanted to talk it through ... so I didn’t really feel I could say “ just let me go and shower for a minute”. So I sat there, sweat trickling down my back, hair all wet and sweaty, face like a tomato ( she did say “ you look hot” at one point and I don’t think it was a compliment) but eventually after an hour she had got it out of her system and she said “ well I won’t hold you up”. 🙄 and she went.

I love my sister and we always go to each other when we have things to talk about but the timing was awful. I dragged my sweaty achey body up to the shower and scrubbed, then put the cold water on for a blast but now, nearly 5 hours later I still have pink cheeks. And I have lost all motivation to do anything else today. I HAVE done a washing load and watered my plants but that is it now.

Anyone else hate their running routine being messed with? I am a creature of habit, even down to having porridge at least 6 days out of 7, and I dont like my routine messed with. But I did a nice thing today in being a good listener, so I am going to bask in that and sprawl and finish my knitting.

And as to my dopey cat , who is currently roasting himself in full sunshine in the windowsill( he smells like fresh ironing) the vet is very pleased with his foot and hopefully Monday the dressing will be off for good. There was just one bright pink bit still needing to dry up but the rest was looking so much better on his redress appointment yesterday. I bet it’s itching though as he keep shaking it still, and he keeps lifting it up to wash it then licking the inside of the Buster Collar 🤣🤣 dozy Sod!!! It is 5 weeks since he did it. And he’d better not go wherever it was again!!!!

Sorry you had a tough run Lou. It has been very warm today and you're right that sitting around straight after a run is not the best thing! Having said that, I would have done the same for my sister! (she's in Somerset though and I'm in Surrey, so a bit of a long drive! 😉)

Glad your cat continues to improve - such tough little things, cats! 🐱 I need to take mine to the vet soon to have a small cyst checked. The vet is aware and we have been keeping an eye on it - but I suspect he will have to have it removed at some point. It's just below his ear so he may get fitted with a collar - and I promise you he will be an absolute nightmare with a collar! 😱🐱

Mines been pretty good really but he does hate it. And he was really funny with his head bobbing up and down, because the bits you run the tie up bandage through,to tie round his neck, are on his shoulders so as he walks they move up and down.plus they had to put a bigger size one on him because he could still reach his foot so he walks into doorways as he doesn’t realise how wide he is 🤣

I hope the physio can help with your hip limberlou . Glad you managed a 9k even if it was cut short.

My thing was people phoning me when out running as I take my phone for emergencies and music. So all the family now know if I don't answer I'm out running.

Great Loki is getting better🐱

In the 3rd paragraph limberlou near the beginning, the way you described your cat i spat my tea out laughing. I don't know if autocorrect is to blame or you actually meant to write it . But you made me laugh anyway 🐱🤣

That post really made me laugh. Well done you running in that heat then forgoing your usual routine to listen. Even up here in Scotland with a strong wind I found todays run very hot, and I'd had my hair cut really short yesterday so no excuse. Enjoy your knitting and a leisurely evening. Happy running 🤗

It was 17 degrees when I ran and that’s far too hot for me. I’m hot in the winter 🤣🤣

17 is the height of summer for me, high factor cream and all 🤣

Yeah I was a redhead until I gave in and went silver-grey gracefully. I quite like my silver hair now but my skin knows I’m a redhead. I burn then the freckles join up

I think my freckles have been joined since I was a child 😂😂

Love Thatcher's cider and I like the routine you have too! Yes, there is comfort in and around run days that is almost sacred 😁 up and at em though and you did it!! Keep going.

Well done on your run and hope your hip is getting better. These injuries do get in the way of our running don’t they! I’m sure your sister was very appreciative of you listening to her. 👍🏼

Yeah I’m sure she did and she listens to me when I drone in about my problems too
