I posted yesterday I think, about 2 blisters near the top of my arm. The blisters are still there but there is more of a red area surrounding it and its got bigger. Went in to boots the chemist and showed it to the pharmacist she told me to phone the doctor.
I sent them an email with photos attached and I've to get an antibiotic.
Don't feel unwell or anything so that's good and was back out running this morning in rain and 45mph winds so I seem fit and well apart from my arm.
So when out and running be careful when running in low tree areas and check your skin . 😊😊

That doesn't look good, you can see it's infected😟Glad you've got something for it. Did they say what could have caused it?? Good to here that you are feeling ok in yourself though. 👍 Take care Buddy, hope those antibiotics kick in soon 🤒
That looks nasty, a bit bigger than yesterday, I hope the antibiotic will get rid of them, part of my running route goes through a woodland area, I know where the overhanging trees are, but from now on I will be extra careful when I am on that part of the route.
I hope those blisters will go very quickly with the help of the antibiotics.
Oooh nasty!! I went for a walk the other evening with my son, just before we had the thunder and we kept seeing loads of the big flying ants and when I got home I had been bitten on the side of my right calf. Only a tiny bite but by next morning it was swollen and had a big red patch round it about half the size of your red patch....no blisters though. I took extra antihistamines for a couple of days and put Zambuk on it and it’s gone right down now.
Yours looks more like blisters from some sort of sap.
Obviously that wouldn't help an infection so fingers crossed the antibiotics do the job!
Gosh Buddy, bless your heart. I really hope that it begins to settle for you. Really well done on the run in that wind too! Nothing seems to stop you going out and achieving. Take great care.
Thanks Buddy for sharing. I hope it heals well and settles down soon for you. I blissfully run and bash overhanging plants away with my arms. Will be a bit more careful in future. Avoiding the beasties is more difficult though... have eaten quite a few in recent weeks.
I walked through Scotland back in 2011. One of the places that I stayed at had a poem on the wall about The Invernonan Midge. I can't remember it all but starts "The Invernonan Midge is a carnivore elite, with an ice axe in his oxter, and crampons for feet..." Those few lines have stuck with me. Wee beasties they are.
I still think it was from the tree (as my reply to your other thread) rather than midges, but it just reminded me of those carnivores elite!
Glad you have antibiotics and had it seen by a pharmacist.
It could be a bite - or it could be from brushing past a poisonous plant - do you have HOG-WEED growing on your route? It looks similar to cow parsley, but bigger and certainly something that your skin shouldn't touch! It also has the "Brucey-Bonus" of leaving the affected area of skin extra sensitive to UV from sunlight, adding further complications.
I have been avoiding brushing past branches and bushes on my runs, more to do with C-19 (just being extra cautious in case an infected person had brushed past it too!).
My husband came back from a run recently with a straight line of about 10 blisters across his calf - it looked very similar to your photo but his actual red area swelled up too. He took antihistamines and it settled down after a few days; still unsure if it was plant or beastie induced!
Hello, I have been fairly regularly over the last few years, by some beastie that produces those sorts of blisters. Not sure what crittur it is. The blisters fill up with lots of fluid and are inflamed as you show in the photo. The most I have used is an antibiotic cream. Of late I tend to burst the blisters and drain off the fluid, which seems to work best for me. I know, GASP/HORROR don't do that! However it has given the quickest healing and reduced the inflammation much quicker. The blisters, as they are tend to take 1-2 weeks to start to disappear.
They will go, but will irritate for awhile. It will be interesting to hear how you get on.
I was thinking Giant hogweed too. There are several plants which will cause a similar reaction as I found out a few years ago when I brushed against a parsnip top in the garden.
They look sore Buddy. Take care. I read last year, I think, that there’s caterpillars invading Britain that’s if they touch your skin they are toxic. In Portugal, I’ve seen that they put tape around the middle of trees to deter them. But I understand in Scotland ( it was on the coast) they were spraying. It’s always a worry when you don’t know specific problem as you can’t then easily avoid. Hoping it clears up quickly for you.
There is a plant called Hogweed or Giant Hogweed which grows along hedgerows and river banks. If u brush against it , it reacts with sunlight and causes blisters similar to this.
Owch! Thanks for sharing a photo and putting me off my lunch! Looks more like a beastie bite but I guess it could have been the tree branch. Take care. Glad you're still out running though.
