The high of my first parkrun tourism balanced by the low of a bad running day when I just felt I couldn't carry on.
Then a very average run on Tuesday evening that felt fairly poor but was actually a pretty good time.
Then this morning I came the closest I ever have to a CBA... hemmed and hawed, delayed getting out of bed, convinced myself there were genuine reasons not to run. Then habit and the stories on this forum took over... it became "I'll just put my running gear on", then it became "I'll just have a walk in the sun", then it became "I'll just run for a few minutes". End result = run complete as per the plan.
So, I'm still on track. Still doesn't feel comfortable to run... still very slow (but noticing my relaxed speed creeping up). But on track.
Happy running, everyone. Enjoy the sun if you're lucky enough to have it.

Isn’t it funny how those dreadful ‘slow’ runs throw out a PB and the bouncing along with energy to spare runs turn out to be slower than a dead snail! Well done for doing it anyway. The weather is turning now 🤞 so hopefully plenty more sunshine to motivate you.😊
That's what I did after my "6 points of contact" fall onto cobblestones the other week.
After I convinced the driver who stopped that I was ok to hobble home, I thought "well as I am out I might as well walk some of my route" then after a few minutes "I will just run a bit" and ended up with a slowish but steady 3km run before heading home to the first aid kit.
Sometimes a "bad"run turns out to be better than ok, in the circumstances.
I’m so glad you got out there and did your run after all Pianism. 👍👊😀 Sometimes that’s all it takes to beat the gremlins. I bet you’d have felt rotten if you’d have gone out for a walk without your running gear on - you’d have been dying to run!
Well done ! Nice to read graduate stories as you can sometimes feel in limbo...I’m Week 3 so not far behind you, good and bad runs too but just think that’s normal. It’s weird isn’t it as I still don’t feel always comfortable on a run but we get through it and on to the next one. Are you doing 3 x 30 mins or something different ?
I'm doing 2 x 30 minutes plus parkrun, which is between 34 and 40 minutes usually. I'm going for a long period of consolidation because I'm still quite overweight and I want my body to get used to what I'm doing before I start to move on.
Well done for getting out there. It is difficult to get through the front door (if indeed you manage to get out of bed) I find. I had a 2 week period where every run was very difficult, then all of a sudden they went back to normal. I don't really know why but I think I was hungry! Glad you are still getting out there and doing it. If you fancy a slow run together on a Thursday I could possibly drive over to join you. It would motivate both of us!
Normally, I can't wait to get put of the door but it was just a bit of a perfect storm today. Anyhow, I did it.
Normally, I've only got a small amount of time on a Thursday as it's my main teaching day but sometimes I have a quiet one when people are on holiday. Next time that happens, I'll let you know and perhaps we could meet somewhere in the middle.
I'm so glad that there are others out there not yet bounding along full of the joys of Spring. I've just done my eighth run since graduating, like you doing 30 minute runs although I'm intending to brave park run on Saturday. Still nowhere near doing 5k in 30 minutes. The last two runs have been pants! I went to Pilates this morning, came home feeling good, got changed and went out for a run. This one started much better than my last one in that I didn't really suffer from the toxic ten but I simply never found my stride. I huffed and puffed and practically fell over with relief when Laura told me to stop. Not very encouraging for Saturday! However I did come home and order some new running leggings as proof to myself that I am not going to give up. I wonder if everyone has these times where just getting out the door is the achievement?
It can be a bit boring running the same distance and time 3 times a week. If you want to try something a bit different to mix it up a bit, I use a JogRunSprint app on iPhone and have set it to tell me when to jog 30 seconds, run (parkrun speed), 20 seconds and sprint 10 seconds several times. It is good fun and I can be seen giggling along the prom afterwards. Varying your route might help too.
The sun will be out most of this week so I hope you can enjoy the next parkrun too.
At this point, there's no difference between my jog, run and sprint speeds! Snail speed is as much as I can manage at this point. But, yes, I'm going to do a couple more weeks and then start to mix it up a bit. I've already started exploring some different routes when I find I have a bit more time.
Yes I tried Jogrunsprint but didn’t actually feel I was going any faster than my usual snail pace, especially for the “Sprint” bits. But I had actually done my fastest ever 5k when I got home and looked at Strava. So it must have worked a bit. Not sure my pace will ever be properly called “sprint” though......
But well done for getting out there and smashing the gremlins into touch
It sounds like you will get to meet lots of VRBs at your parkrun challenge. That will be fun. Really excited about our Southampton get together this week.
Well done for doing it Pianism. I still feel the same a year on. But we do, don’t we?! In fact this week I’ve hardly done any but that’s because I’ve overdone it! The forum will help get me out the door again next week 😁
