Arm Cast

Hey everyone, so last week I asked if it would be ok to run with an arm cast on. I've now got a full (shiny nice red) cast on my lower arm. The Doctor I saw in the fracture clinic said it was ok to run, but be careful. Then, a technician said it would be ok ... no different to the risk whether you have a cast on or not, just be a bit more mindful and careful. The next technician who actually put my cast on, said he wouldn't run and said "I don't know what it is with you runners" (clearly he didn't run or do much exercise).

Anyway, so I tried it last Thursday. I admit I was a bit nervous (trying to tie trainers one handed is also hard work 😅), but I managed to run 3K, very slowly and it did feel fine. I then did my parkrun last Saturday (then walked another 7-8K home) again slower than usual, but it felt good to get running again. I will keep on running now but focussing on running more than on PB times etc, until my cast is off (about 6 more weeks), then try to work on my times before my 10K run in October.

I did my 10K on 25 June but have only just got round to catching up with this forum emails now, after a mega busy few months in work.

Please can I have a 10K badge etc .... thank you so much everyone 👍👍

wow!! Well done on running with a cast on. I know how frustrating it can be not being able to run. Spent many a time in the IC myself. Keep it up and good luck for October

🍏🤩🙌Congratulations!! Wow 🤩 Delighted to pin the 10k badge on behalf of  MissUnderstanding who is away at the moment. Glad you able to run with the cast albeit gingerly. Keep in touch and let us know how the training goes! Well done 👍

My only concern would be that it might affect your balance slightly. But it wouldn't be that much different to carrying a bottle of water in your hand as some people do.

It's not too bad, I did run with a water drinking bottle in my other hand, which worked well. I also found a hack online whereby I wear a wrist sweatband at the top of my cast, so sweat or moisture doesn't run down into the cast

Not just putting your shoes on but are you having to put on lycra to run?? It's unbelievable how awkward it can be to have your arm in a cast. I am in awe that you can tie your trainers at all, let alone go for a run!

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery :)

Thankfully I'm in shorts now for running - since I broke my wrist, I've been in football shorts every day as they just pull up, without messing around with buttons and zips. I don't do dresses or skirts at all though 😂😂

Congratulations on your 10K! And well done for running in your cast...

I hit the 10K mark a few weeks ago and haven't had the time to get back out and do it again. Sunday - fingers crossed.
