I've managed to keep my 3 runs a week going during the current 'lock-down' with a little adjustment of routes to avoid the most populated areas. I even stuck to a Saturday morning run at 9, sometimes wearing my red t-shirt!
However over the last 3 weeks, I'd noticed a small lump just above the ball of one of my feet. It didn't seem to affect my running, although at other times it was sometimes tender. I guess I was hoping it would clear up of its own accord but at the end of last week I admitted defeat and made a GP appointment for this Thursday. Unfortunately yesterday evening things took a turn for the worse with my whole foot swelling up.
This morning the swelling had subsided somewhat, but I decided that Thursday was too long to wait, particularly as someone with type 2 diabetes, I'm supposed to keep an eye on my feet. I phoned the surgery and luckily was able to get a video consultation with the GP (isn't technology great!). He suggested a couple of possible causes but I need to have a blood test and x-ray to confirm. Hopefully those will be done by the end of the week - watch this space.
So I will be trying to keep my foot rested until I know what's what. Of course, compared to what many others are going through at this time and particularly this evening's news, it isn't significant, but as you all know, running means a lot to us……..
Take care all.😀

So sorry to hear this Jonathan, but I’m really pleased that you managed to get to speak to your GP and that things are being organised to check it out.
There’s lots of room on the couch so come and join us for a natter. I’m certainly not going anywhere fast at the moment.
Fingers crossed for your test results, and best wishes from me and UpTheStanley .
You have had more than your fair share of IC JP. Hope it goes away quickly. Feels a bit like tightrope walking without a safety net at the moment...limited access to medics and physios I mean. I developed a very sore spot on the inside of my left leg just below the knee. May be the every other day hill walks plus yesterday’s “speed” , attempt. Hopefully it will just disappear, but it just emphasises the absence of support mechanisms...except for this one! 🤞🤞🤞 that this isn’t another set back for you.
Oh dear, so frustrating. 😳 I will shuffle up the (extra long) IC to make room for you in the special “dodgy foot” section. It is indeed small in the grand scheme of things to forgo our running for a bit, but in this new world of limited pleasures it does feel hard. Let us know progress as it happens. 👍 Take care.
Thanks for asking Floss. Things are a little clearer but not yet crystal!
I've now had the blood test (normal) & the x-ray and the GP texted me Saturday to let me know I have osteoarthritis in one of the joints in my second toe - hence the lump. Stopping running and walking distances for a week has cleared the associated swelling and tenderness, but not sure what sparked that off in the first place. I'm hoping it won't stop me running for long - will follow up with GP tomorrow.🤞
To maintain fitness I've unearthed my bike from the shed after years of disuse - quite enjoyable but not like running!😀
