Pushed it too far?

Been a while since I’ve posted on here, the last few weeks has taken some getting my brain around, as I’m sure it has for everyone.

My 10k race was (inevitably) cancelled for a second time, so I went out and in my frustrated state knocked 6 minutes off my previous time over 10K. That was the first time Strava warned me I was training too hard. . .

The next week I went out along an 8K route that normally has no-one on it. There were SO MANY PEOPLE! I probably ran it too fast just to try and get to the safety of home. And Strava warned me again.

Long story short I think the frustration of being cooped up in my home office all day has led to some overtraining and yesterday I developed a rather painful shin splint. Next time I might listen, but looks like that’s some time out for me 🥺

I hope you’re all staying safe and keeping active where possible, but let this be a word of warning not to let frustration ruin all your efforts!

6 minutes off your 10k time is great but you've obviously just pushed yourself a bit too much. Don't worry I'm sure we've all done something we are not supposed to. The good thing is you've realised early on and now know not to push yourself like that again.

I'm sure a few days of non running will help.

Good luck.

This is something I've shared a lot and it really helped me when I needed it😊😊

Ah that’s frustrating for you at a time when our resilience/tolerance is being put under strain too. Can you do some laser-focused DIY for a few days while your leg heals?! I hope you recover quickly with the rest.

🙈So sorry to hear this! Sometimes our heart doesn’t listen to our head (or Strava😂) but rest up now. Time to read all those running articles you don’t get time to do!

I overdid it last year and ran a 10K race in July with shin splints and ended up with a stress fracture in my left shin! So I second that warning!

And I’ve just now completed the C25K as a recovery - so couldn’t run for months!
