Longest run so far!

I’ve fallen into a pattern and am now a regular 3 x a week runner: parkrun on Saturdays, a lovely relaxed 5k run with the amazing social run group from my local running shop on Tuesday evenings, then some other run, usually a 5k or very occasionally a 10k on a Thursday - but no further as I’m generally limited by the all too frequent need to “spend a penny”!

So it was with slight trepidation that I set out this morning to try out the 10k Ditton Dash course for the race I’ve entered next Sunday.

It starts only 1k from home, so thought I’d try to run to the start, complete the whole route, then run home. It’s a mixture of grass, pavement and woodland so was expecting some lovely muddy puddles after the incessant rain we’ve had this week, but wanted to check for tree roots, overhanging branches etc too.

Started off dry, then drizzle and by 4k it was tipping it down - my first ever run in the rain a and it was great! (only started C25k at end of January and it’s hardly rained since then!)

Loved the cooler temperature as I always overheat by 3k, so although exhausted, came back very happy. Started the run fasted and had a couple of jelly babies at 8k and 10k to give me boost to get to the 12k mark.

Pleased as I know I can run the distance now (as ling as it’s not too hot) and chuffed with my longest run to date too 😊

Good run for you HMum, good time too, you are now running regularly sub 30/60 minute 5/10K runs respectively and not just one off's, that is excellent.

IF I ever get a sub 30 minute 5k I think that would be a one off, a big IF. 😊

Thanks Al, I’m still surprised by it, but it is going well. My husband has just joined in running too and is chasing my tail speed wise, so have to stick at it 😂

I assume he is starting with C25K or perhaps he has ran before and wishes to accompany you on your runs.

He’s played 90mins of touch rugby every week for the past 15yrs so was already reasonably fit. He tried his first parkrun and ran all but 5 mins in the middle and finished in 35mins(!), but the following week ran the whole way and has had 3 pbs on the trot and now just a few seconds over 30mins so he’s definitely catching me! It does help that he’s 6’3” with ridiculously long legs though 😂

Well done you! Great running and there seems to a theme (me included) of those of us who haven't really run in the rain before (I also started in January and it's mostly been so dry!) and actually it's quite enjoyable!!

A poster on another thread suggested dried apricots as well for part way round snacks... love the sound of jelly babies too! Must try them, especially on the longer runs.

Yes I saw the thread mentioning the apricots but a) didn’t have any and b) prefer jelly babies 😂

Brilliant run hinchleymum. Just taper your runs in the week leading to your race and you’ll do great. Boy, you are fast 🏃‍♀️💨

Thanks Dexy, I’m away in Edinburgh visiting my son this weekend so a nice enforced run rest then will take it slow and short next week 😊
