Woo hoo! In just less than five months of running I’ve gone from zero to 10k!
This run was meant to happen in about a month’s time but thanks to some encouragement from my VRBs I started about a month early and I cut two runs out of the programme by not repeating the 8k and 9k.
Wow. That’s a serious distance. My first week of Couch had me dying for the walk break and wondering how on earth I’d manage week 2. Then we have all the 20+ minute runs and the fear and drama they bring. Now I’ve run 1:18:07 non-stop (apart from crossing a road twice).
Some of you know I had planned to run this morning. Well yesterday something happened at work that warranted a few of us going out for an after-work beer. “Just one or two, I’ve got a 10k to run in the morning.”
Five hours, five pints and a Piña Colada later and I’m rolling home, rocking in at 11pm having eaten nothing since lunch and trying to make some tea.
Eventually get to sleep about 1am, wake briefly around 7am to use the loo and then crash back out until gone 10am. Wake up feeling dehydrated and rough.
Conference with VRBs and decide to run on Sunday. But I have my new running group on Monday. And I’m not sure my legs will take those hills so soon after a 10k. So I eat carefully and start hydrating.
Then Hidden goes and does a run and puts a massive smile on Strava. I want some of that. So I went out just before 4pm and, if I say so myself, smashed it.
Thanks everyone for the constant support. If you wonder whether you can, you can. For me being comfortable and confident doing regular 5ks was a pre-requisite but speed/time of that is irrelevant.
What next? Hoping to do a 10k race in November with a VRB and I have that Manchester 10k next May.
Next May. That was my target for being able to do 10k. What happened? You lot turned me into a runner, that’s what 🤣
Oh, and Sirens Hill? That was to Parklife by Blur, just like old times. Spotify working its random magic and had me grinning like a loon all the way up!
Whatever run you have next, enjoy it x

Yes Jay! Well done! So happy for you. I’ve just entered a 10k at the end of October as I know I need a goal otherwise I’ll just stick to 5-6k and not push myself. You must be so chuffed! 🏃🏃❤️👍🍾
Party time mate!!! Super duper congratulations my fiend - very well done in deed!
We all knew you could do it 👍👍👍👍
My is planned for next Saturday and mountaindreamer on Monday...... I might try and sneak one in on Tuesday now so I’m not left out!!! (Now my shoe issues seem to be ok!!)
Cheers, mate. Not a chance of HM! I’m going to do a couple of 10ks and then try to stretch to 11k and 12k so that the 10k doesn’t feel so hard when I do a real one.
Well done Jay! That’s awesome. I hope I’ll have the motivation to push myself soon, I seem to be sticking to “comfortable” 5-6km and no more. You’ve inspired me to try harder! X
Well done on your 10k! It is a great distance to run and your progress sounds fantastic!☺
Great work Jay! Ran my first 10K a few weeks back in 1hr 4min. Finishing gives you such a buzz doesn't it! Yet to enter a proper 10K race - i'm sure you will smash it.
Any runs under the 10K distance will now feel easier.
Brilliant news, Jay!!! Well done! Despite terrible preparation, you’ve just proved you can still get out there and pull off your first 10k, and that’s pretty awesome! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🏅🏆😃🏃♂️❤️😎
Absolutely fabulous Jay. Can't believe how far we've come in such a short time. Glad you made it out there and smashed it today as planned. Bring on the 10k races 👏👏🏃♂️🎉👍
Jay, I am so pleased for you. You have done absolutely brilliantly. I think running has been your saviour at a difficult time in your life and we virtual running buddies have witnessed a complete transformation in your confidence and self esteem . Very Well Done and a virtual hug from me. 🏃♂️👏👏👏
Wow, wow, wow!!! 10 flipping K Jay!! Huge distance and achievement. You’ve done so well since we started our journey on C25k. Ups and downs but always fought through it all. Go you! So deserved Mr Graduate10💪🏼👨🎓 🥇 🍹 😎👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
😳👏👏👏👏👏 very very well done Jay!!! Oh. My. Word! I am sat here facing an 8k this morning and the gremlins are going nuts so I needed that too, thank you 😘
Brilliant write-up Jay66UK ! There was no question you'd nail the Magic 10 - not in my mind. Massive pat on the back for a job amazingly well done!!!! What a star! 🌟 The future is bright, good luck with your next goal: go smash it!!!!!! 🏆🥇🎉🎊👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think a HM is quite a few steps too far whilst I’m still a puppy at running. Going to consolidate 10k a few times then try 11k and 12k to make 10k events feel easier. Never say never.
Only just saw this (not been on the Bridge Forum of late). Bloody well done!! That's a huge personal achievement for you. Not wonder you're chuffed. Proof that slow and steady pays dividends in the end, eh? Bloody marvellous!!
🤗 Speechless! I've gone AWOL for a while, then randomly sitting here just thinking to myself I wonder how Jay66UK is getting on... Well, YOU Sir are unbloodybelievable!! I am absolutely made up for you Jay, you relentless human you! Virtual hugs from me 🤗🤗🤗
