Sticking with ju ju , but missing Hyde park 10k

Like others on this forum I’ve made the decision to play it safe , and not attend the Hyde park run today (10k) due to Coronavirus. Really hard , but will start week 7 of ju ju s plan instead, and I’m going to run to my friends house ( around 6 k ) away , this will count as the 5 k run of the week . Sad, but there will be other runs this year at Hyde park and I can look forward to those 🦋🙏🏻

Your right. I’ve entered a 10K race at the end of April, over 8,000 people, it won’t go ahead. But even if it was going ahead I wouldn’t attend. Everyone needs to be conscious of risks and self aware right now. Social responsibility like you have unfortunately will be ruined by the morons who were out last night in crowded pubs, night clubs and restaurants. Their total lack of social responsibility will eventually force governments to implement more draconian measures so as to protect the masses.

Well done again on your decision. I live in the Republic of Ireland. Unfortunately all sporting events are cancelled. Workers are asked where possible to work from home. Schools, Colleges, Child Care facilities are closed. There is a limit of 100 people in indoor social gatherings, 500 person limit for outdoor events. Venues are in the main being responsible and some even closing their doors so as to protect staff and customers. However in some places, pubs and restaurants were full last night. It’s a St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. The idiots celebrating and the irresponsible owners of the venues will now force the governments hand to shut everything down to protect the morons from themselves.

Stay safe and stay running.

Thanks again Damien for your support 😉I seem to remember you really supported me when I injured my hip too ! It’s certainly the right decision for me , mine and others I think and I can wear the bit of disappointment. Looking forward to running to my friends instead 💐

Thanks again 🖐🏻🏃‍♀️

It seems to me we have been getting quite mixed messages from various sources. The official advice from the UK government is to carry on as normal, wash hands more, only self-isolate if you show symptoms, no ban on mass gatherings, etc. It seems they want infection to spread to build this so-called ‘herd immunity’. Even the more proactive decision to put a limit of 100 people indoors and 500 indoors isn’t encouraging social isolation, is it?

I think most of us are looking at Italy and thinking these measures don’t do enough, and anticipate that things will change very rapidly... but I think to label everyone who is out as idiots or morons lacking social responsibility is unfair at this point.

I went out last night with a friend after climbing. We had a quiet drink and a meal and wondered if it would be the last in a while. There were quite a few others doing the same. We must have washed our hands half a dozen times before and after climbing, before and after eating, and so on. We used the sanitisers that had been positioned by the doors. I have a thermometer and have been checking my temperature regularly. I don’t feel I am a moron, or have been irresponsible in my actions.

There were videos going around last night on Social Media of Temple Bar in Dublin. Full blown party atmosphere. Streets and Bars were full of People.

I work in a Healthcare company. There are only so many ICU beds and Ventilators. There are 20 and 30 something year olds in ICU and on Ventilators in other countries. Genuinely this can affect everyone. I’m not saying anyone who goes out and has a responsible evening with friends is a moron , only those that continue as if it’s a full blown party atmosphere. I have heard about students having Virus Parties as college is finished. Anyway I’m going to be very careful going forward.

Yes, I think we all need to be more careful. I also think that the government response needs to be clearer, and stronger. If part of the message going out is: groups of 100 indoors, 500 outdoors and we need 60% of the population to catch it to get greater immunity (to protect older people and those with underlying health conditions), then it is unsurprising that some people will behave in the way described. It might not be the choice you, or I, would make, but I wouldn’t call them morons.

My sons father is a GP, I work with the elderly. These are frightening and sobering times, and people are being left to make personal choices which for some will mean total self-isolation and for others will mean party while they still can. I suppose I hope that with clear direction we will all pull together and until then, let’s suspend judgement.

My personal opinion on this is the uk government has wasted weeks on telling us not to worry, carry on as normal as long as you're washing your hands and now it has backfired and the cases of the virus are doubling by the day/ week.

So it is up to us as individuals to decide what action to take . 😊

Sensible decision. We all need to take responsibility for this and I think social distancing has got to be the best way. Not nice, but we have to try to protect ourselves and others around us. Like you say, there will be lots of events in the future to take part in 🙂
