One of my goals for the 2020 was to try some Parkrun Tourism. My usual run wasn’t on today but another local one was so it was an obvious choice to go today.
I went to Hyde Parkrun in Hyde Park in Cheshire. It was great. Friendly volunteers and an enthusiastic run director. The course is currently 4 laps through the park (their usual path through the woods was closed) the fairly steep uphill was tricky but the resultant downhill was nice.
I enjoyed it - no PB but given the hills I was glad to just get round.
Big admiration to lots of others their who had ‘done a double’ they had been to Glossop Parkrun at 9:00 and then done Hyde at 10:30. I’m impressed.
Anyone else Parkrun today and did anyone do two Parkruns today?

Fantastic effort, I just did a first run round our block tackling hills I've been avoiding. Lovely to know I can now run them in 2020. Happy healthy new year
Cool - great that you tried something new. Well done there are a few hills near me I’ve not attempted yet but am trying to visualise how good I’d feel running down the other side.
I've been tackling these hills for a few weeks now. Discovered the fear is far worse than the event 😉 i run them with no aim for speed, distance or time, just complete them. Give yours a try, take it slow, enjoy.
Yes I did double parkrun. Parked at the 2nd, ran to the first, did parkrun, ran to the second, did parkrun. 11 miles altogether. Lots of people do this every year 😊
Well done. Yep I was up early after hosting a New Year party in our house last night. I was collected at 8am and went with 5 others from my local parkrun to do a double in Dublin. We did one at 9:30 and the second at 11:00. I ran sub 30 for both which I was delighted with. There were loads of people who traveled to both and over 800 people ran the second parkrun. Great atmosphere and a great way to kick off the New Year.
I was at 34 mins this time last year. Following some interval training I was able to knock 8 mins off during the year. It’s time to start some interval training again myself soon. Start of a New Year today. I have to undo all the Christmas damage to my waistline.
Wow knocking 8 minutes off would be ace. Intervals here I come. Do you use an app for your intervals- I tried the nhs Stepping stones but didn’t totally get on with it
I hated the stepping stones podcasts too. I did my own interval training. Just use your own 5K route, do a warm up by running 500 meters at your own pace, then if you have a GPS watch select a 6:00 min/Km pace for a 30 min 5K. Run for 500 meters at your target fast pace, then take a little break, run 500 meters at a slower pace, then run 500 meters again at the faster pace. Keep repeating until you get to 5K. If you do this twice during the week you will see your parkrun finish times improve every weekend. When your comfortable with that step it up by making your faster pace at 5:45 and your slow pace at 6:15. As you get faster and comfortable with your interval training just step it up again.
Happy New Year! Yes I did the double... Black Park at 09:00 (Buckinghamshire) and Upton Court at 10:30 (Berkshire)... it was brilliant fun and everyone was having a great time! Today just felt really special xx
I didn't know doubles were possible until I find a few people talking about it on Strava. Turns out I could have done my local and the one next door today. Had I known I'd have tried to make the necessary arrangements.
I did a double Park Run in Leicester along with lots of others! There were 891 rummers at the second one, amazing atmosphere and I'd try and do it if you have the chance
Last year I was a recent C25K graduate so the thought of doing 2x parkruns seemed too much. But this year Mr and Mrs Katnap volunteered (setup) at our local and then drove to a nearby 10:30 start parkrun where one of our local run directors was proposed to after the run! 😃😃😃
Wow that sounds eventful- not yet seen a proposal at parkrun - It’s great how c25k has started so many of us off - last year my plan was to start C25k and hopefully do Parkrun- I did that! This year I want to do the Manchester 10k, improve my 5k time and do more tourist runs.
Yep! Never started a new year like this before. I was a tourist too, also at a very hilly run 30 mins away from me. I was just glad to get round and wasn't too disappointed with a time of 35:39. Here's to a great year of running!
Great stuff. Nope I’ve never started a new year either a run before. Last year my goal was to start c25k... I don’t think I started til March - but I certainly didn’t think I’d enjoy* it *uphills not included
I recognise that parkrun- we went there last week. A little bit harder than the first time we went there, with an extra hill but a nice run and easier than our home run Marple at the moment because it is extra muddy due to a diversion after the riverbank collapsed.
We went to Street parkrun on NYD, also muddy but of a different consistency- I had forgotten how sticky Somerset mud is.
I didn't realise a double was possible until I got home and saw the Strava posts. Putting it in the diary for next year (unless there are any other days throughout the year when a double is possible?)
Like you, I'm keen to play tourist a bit this year. Not sure how practical that's going to be now the boy has started swimming lessons meaning I need to be back home by 10 each week, but I guess I've still got 52 attempts at it!😜
