Having just read a post about an unfortunate runner headbutting a low bridge, whilst distracted by the dreaded Mobile phone device........ If you need it with you put it in a pocket, or phone holder. And as for the music......... I used it throughout c25k, but now I've escaped, and the silence and the observation that you gain from running minus music it's simply beautiful,
That's what they call here on Bridge to 10K"running naked", no running device, no mobile phone, etc, I have been doing some of that as well, just use my wrist watch to start and check up until I finish the run, today I ran, run 3 of week 4 of Ju Ju's Magic 10, a 30 minutes run, all I did was to know the time, I began the run at 9.15 am and finished at 9.45am, no Smartphone with me, however, once I get to the last run of Ju Ju's Magic 10 I will have to have my Smartphone with me and Mapmyrun so I know what distance I have ran 🏃🏾.
I mostly run without music but would never look at my phone while running in any case. I have a Garmin but even people using Strava on the phone can use audio prompts to track pace and distance. Moving at speed without looking where you're going is not fair on anyone, I agree. I've recently discovered bone conductor headphones so I do occasionally take music or a podcast on longer-than-usual runs because I can still hear traffic, other runners etc with that kind of headphone, but mostly I prefer running with the sound of my actual surroundings.
