It’s been a week with not a lot of running going on. I went climbing on Friday and somehow managed to leave my climbing shoes and chalk bag (with the Garmin inside) at the centre. I didn’t realise until after closing time on Saturday and spent the night trying (and failing) not to imagine £300 quids worth of stuff walking into the sunset. I was on the blower first thing in the morning and thankfully the Garmin is now in the safe until I can collect it. It’s a two hour round trip and I have had to exert some self control to wait until next weekend, as I want it back!
The fella was over for a long weekend and we went for a long walk on Sunday. About two and half hours of elevated heart rate over steep and undulating countryside - with no stats. Meh. Then on Monday we went for a run. It was absolutely beautiful out. The fella is a city boy and it took him a moment to get used to the lungfuls of crisp, icy cold air. We ran in near silence the whole time, just enjoying the scenery and the motion. I went slow and felt pretty comfortable the entire time, which is unusual - I usually struggle in sections. My old friend Nike Run Club confirmed we had indeed been for a steady run, with nearly negative splits only marred by a hilly and muddy fourth kilometre with a pee break for him.
I’m very impressed with the fella. When I think back to the beginning of my C25k journey, I struggled to run for 60 seconds. He has barely started running, and was fine with 40 minutes. His calves were a bit dodgy but his lungs are limitless reservoirs.
We got home and I did Day 3 (I think) of Yoga with Adriene. It was a lovely way to stretch out after the run and worked a lot better for me than doing it before a run. I felt chilled out and ready to drink freshly squeezed orange juice on the terrace in my kaftan. That was the feeling, anyway.
I’m meant to be on Day 13 of the 30 day yoga challenge, but I only did Day 5 this morning. I’d really recommend it. You certainly become more aware of where there is tightness and strain in your body - particularly first thing in the morning!
My intention was to go for a run but it was so dark and grey outside. If it’s sub-zero temperatures I can take the tracks and enjoy crunching over frozen mud and grass, but otherwise I’m on country lanes in half-light with cars bombing around on their way to work. It was 6*C this morning, my Garmin is in a safe a long way away, and and and... so the yoga happened instead.
Roll on Springtime.

Well... hehe. I might enjoy it on different roads. Even in fluorescent gear I feel vulnerable when there are so many blind bends that people take far too quickly on these narrow lanes.
i understand missing your garmin but it will be back soon
We started the 30 day yoga challenge and got up to day 4 when the flu hit us, we will go back to it though soon as found it hard but lovely and peaceful in a busy often noisy life
Glad your tech is safe, funny how we can function perfectly well for years without this piece of kit then suddenly our life is driven by it 😉. Sounds like you’ve had a fantastically active week. Your 6deg cold is a decent winters day for me 😂😂
I subscribed (kinda by accident! 😂) then noticed I was getting the emails just after NY... So I did day 1 January 11th afer parkrun (that was nice)... And day 2 just yesterday morning whilst in my onzie and trying to have my morning ☕ coffee before work! Need to plan it better...
I would’ve been swearing fluently for five minutes straight without ever repeating myself if that was me. And it’s not enough knowing that it’s in the safe. I’d be demanding promises over the phone that no-one’s going to fiddle with the buttons. Or try it on. *shudder*
I love the thought of running along with my beloved in silence, just admiring the surroundings. Actually, I love the thought of doing anything together in silence. Everyone needs to live in hope.
