This is unheard of for me but sometimes, just sometimes a 'naked' run is what we need!
I was a bit under the weather over the BH weekend and although I went out for a run on Monday morning, it was one of 'those' rubbish runs! I returned home a bit deflated and struggled to take my own advise, that it was still miles in the legs and to just move on to the next one! Today, after work I decided to ditch the Garmin and the music and just go with the flow. One of the reasons for no music (I love listening to music when I run) is that I have a run at the weekend where headphones are not allowed. ๐ง Despite my initial fear that I was ditching my long term comfort blanket, I was surprised to find I didn't miss them at all! I think I spend so much time in my head, processing the day when I run, that sometimes the music is a bit incidental. And leaving my Garmin at home was fine too (just this once, anyway๐). Ran a favourite 6.5k loop and returned home with confidence restored and although I know I will return to my music playlists, I will definately try to mix in a few more runs like this from time to time, too.๐

Aaagh, I've gone all twitchy at the thought of running without my Garmin
I once arrived at a run route after driving to it and realised I'd left my Garmin at home. I was stupidly thrown and nearly went into a panic and was gong to turn around to get it but then thought how ridiculous I was being ๐
I know how you feel!! I love my music and podcasts on my runs but on a Monday evening I donโt listen to anything! I meet up with about 4 or 5 others and we set off together but then just go at our own paces so I run on my own and it felt really strange at first but actually Iโm used to it now and it feels quite liberating!
I remember when I graduated I thought Iโd never be able to run without Sarah Millican and I kept re playing week 9 for ages until I finally let go!!!
I always take my phone and record my runs on Strava! Not sure if Iโm ready to stop that!! ๐๐โโ๏ธ
I ditched the headphones in week 7 and just read up beforehand what to do, and i would hate to run with music instead of birdsong and the sounds of nature - but run without Ming the Merciless to tell me my stats? Never!
I agree - it did feel liberating! Two and a half years since graduating and I think the 'no music' was a first!! I really thought I would miss it more than I did!โบ
Yes, it can be quite good thinking, listen to the birds sing time. Often just have the headphones round my neck and stick them on if the gremlins start to take control.
