A bracing -4 degrees this morning turned out to be the perfect conditions for my first 10K.
I’d ended up not running for the past week. No particular reason for this, I just didn’t do any running 🤷♀️ So, as I headed out this morning to start week 6 of JuJu’s Magic Plan I had no expectations. As each kilometre ticked away that mischievous voice in my head started telling me I could do this. And I did! It took me 1hour 16 minutes which I’m pretty pleased with.
Two lessons from today:
1. I can run 10K
2. A break from running every now and then is good for you
Happy running everyone!

Thanks Debston. Just been reading through posts from this past week and see that you had a moment of madness too and ran 10K. Brilliant! Great feeling, isn’t it?! 😀
😂 It really is! I still can't quite believe it. I am going to stick with the magic plan from here but suddenly distances that sounded so daunting seem achievable. So much of this running thing is mental! But I mustn't overdo things and end up on the Injury Couch again so no more moments of madness for me... 😅
Yes, that’s exactly how I feel and you’re so right about the mental side. I now know I can do it, which is enough for me and it’s more important to keep off the IC so that I can continue running regularly, whatever the distance!
Fantastic news, so pleased for you. I’ve done 5k of w6 but then came down with bad chest so no running for me. Barely able to breath in cold without coughing. 🏅👏🏃♀️
Oh no, bad luck on the chest. I guess it’s that horrible time of year as so many people I know have had a dose. You’ll be back soon - just make sure you’re completely well before running again. 👍
Thank you, feel fine apart from hest cough. Tempted to do 2 short runs then miss out the 9k and go straight for the 10 😉 weather I'd due to warm up so I'll see how it goes. What are your plans now?
Sounds like a good plan. The way you’ve been going up to now, once you’re over the illness you’ll be able to do the 10 no problem I’m sure. Just see how you feel when you get back out there. It’s definitely been way easier (although not easy) jumping from 5 to 10 compared to getting off the sofa and completing C25K.
I have no specific plans now, just to keep going. I can’t say I have any desire to do any more than 10K so I think keeping to the 3 runs per week of varying distances is the way to go for me. Enjoying all the benefits of running is the most important thing for me.
Thank you, like you I have no plans to go longer distance. Would like to try different routes with more varied terrain but with keep to asphalt till graduation.
I didn't think I would ever want to run 10k,so never say never! 😂 I watched the film 'Brittany Runs a Marathon' last night and it's got me wondering...
Well done on achieving that milestone. It's amazing the way our bodies can surprise us with their new found abilities sometimes.
I generally take a week off every couple of months or so, and I almost inevitably set a new PB in terms of time or distance when I return, so I definitely believe allowing your legs an extended recovery period on a fairly regular basis definitely does wonders for them.
Thanks for the advice. I’m definitely going to do that every so often. I won’t say the 10K was easy but I’m sure it would have been harder if I’d only had one rest day or so. 👍
