I have been gradually increasing my distance by 1 Kilometre a week, today was the turn of running 9k, however, the audio of Mapmyrun was playing up, I waited for what seemed ages for the 9k split to come, it never did so I took the phone from my pocket, noted it said 9.6, so I just carried on to 10K.
Time was 73.03, was hoping to run it next Wednesday in around 75 minutes, so I am quite pleased with my time this morning. π π

Thatβs fantastic Alan and donβt worry about your time that will improve the more you run and the longer distance you do πππππππ»ββοΈ
Amazing Al, you did it! And a great time too. π I hope youβre proud as punch. Good for you. Now donβt forget to claim your badge - you know what to do! πππ π
Thank you cheeky, I am as proud as punch, especially that it was a week earlier than planned and the time was two minutes faster than I intended to run. I have gone to the pinned posts and told the administrator's that I ran a 10K today.
You should be very pleased, itβs a great time for a first 10km and you run 10km!!! That is so wonderful. You must make sure to tell everyone well done you!
Thanks CP2, I was a little surprised that I completed it in 73 minutes, 2 minutes earlier than expected and one week earlier because the audio on the app failed at 9k. π π I had intended to run a 9K today, not 10, anyway next week instead of a 10k, my midweek run will be 5k, I will not be at a parkrun this weekend because there is a event in the park, instead this Saturday I will rerun run 3 of week 5 of C25K with Laura. π π
That sounds wise. I found it took me 2 days to recover fully from 10km as itβs quite a bit further. Sounds like today was meant to be 10 and as you say youβve already 2βnfaster than planned! I think GOG and I might go for a long run Friday instead of park run
Thanks to technology I ran my first full 10k a week earlier than I intended to, the audio on the app eventually gave me a report at 9.8km which by that time I had taken the phone out of my pocket to read the time. π
Yes it was meant to be next week, I didn't have that nervous feeling this morning intending to ran a 9k, if the app had stopped at 9k, OK, next week the big 10k, I would have had the nervous ness that I had before run 3 of week 5 and particularly run 3 of week 9 of C25K, also, if it had been next week that I completed 10k, perhaps I would have been more emotional than I was today, rather than the surprise of today's run, anyway, I am pleased with my time. π π
Congratulations Al, 10 k in a very good time. Maybe you need to ask your family for a running watch for birthday or Christmas next. Celebrate and pick up a shiny badge. πββοΈππππ»ππ₯
Thanks Dexy, next to my username is the word GRADUATE10, it's now there, my daughter did give me a running watch last year, but that didn't work with my old smartphone, I do now have a new phone, 64GB against 2GB for my old phone, so I'll whisper in her ear about a watch.
Many Congratulations to you AlMorr. I'm really happy that you made the 10k distance, thats brilliantπ. You deserve your badge and all the applause from your fellow forum members.πππ
Thanks, I now have the badge and the word GRADUATE10 next to my username, it means I won't wake up all nervous about running a 10k next Wednesday as intended, this morning it was to be 9k, but the audio app kept giving me split times such as 1.6k, 3.2, 4.8, 6.4, 8,no 9k split time and because of that I took the phone out of my pocket and noticed my time at 9.6k, there was a audio split time at 9.6 or 8, the last 400 metres I ran with the phone in my hand so that I knew where to stop at exactly 10k.
I think I have sorted that problem out by going into settings of the Mapmyrun app, I noticed the time part was of the app was every 1.6km, that's why it did not give me split 1k times, I have now changed that to 1k split times, I will have to wait to make sure that has been corrected when I go for a short 3k run on Saturday morning, no parkrun for me this Saturday. π π
Runners have reported back here that they feel more elated after they have ran their first 10k more than running their first 10 miles run. Thank you BarbieWπππ
Thanks JonathanP, I am revelling in my 10K achievement, I ran it a week earlier than I intended, I did not wake up yesterday morning feeling all nervous about running a 9K, I just continued on to 10K when I noticed on my smartphone that I had only 400 metres to go to the full 10K distance. If I had only ran 9K yesterday I would have thought to myself, OK, next week the big 10K I would have woken up next Wednesday feeling all nervous about running that distance as I was the days that I ran run 3 of week 5 and run 3 of week 9 of C25K, at least by having now run 10K that won't happen next week.
