Parkrun abandoned but a pedicure and a dry (ish) 5k after all

Today is the start of Week 3 of Juju's Magic Plan and so I bounded (okay, crawled) out of bed at 7.00 to ready myself. As the rain was steady I decided to go by car not my usual train journey which bought me an extra 10 minutes before I had to leave. Left Mr marmalade snoozing with a rapidly cooling cuppa beside him and set off.

All the best laid plans though! My local parkrun would have suited a rower better than a runner this morning and when I arrived nobody was in sight. Note to self: check the website next time!

Anyway, the day didn't pan out too shabbily in the end. My blackening runner's toenails have been covered by a pretty layer of pearly pink and I set off into the gloom at about half 3 for a trot around my basic 5k loop. Strava always tells me it's 4.6k or something, but what's 0.4 of a k between friends?! Anyway the rain stayed off and I got back feeling pretty pleased with myself. It is definitely getting easier this running malarkey!

Shame about your parkrun and glad you managed a run anyway . Are your toenail problems cause by your trainers.

I'm not sure to be honest. I think I might need to get to a proper shop for a fitting and gait analysis. I do prefer snug footwear though; I always get black toenails if I'm doing a lot of hillwalking, but I don't get blisters so I always think it's just the way things are going to be. I've been thinking about going to get fitted for some new trainers - maybe that could be this week's treat!

Yes I definitely think you need some new trainers after gait analysis. 😊

A shame about your parkrun but at least you got out. I do think you need to get shoe advice though - I’d be very concerned about extending to 10k if they are causing black toe nails.

Thanks Dexy! Good advice; I definitely need to do so other than just pretty nail polish!
