Went out yesterday and did 5k and all went well despite the first half battling against the wind.
I’m happy with my time of 34.08 which is a quicker pace too. My Achilles did not give me any cause for concern which I’m delighted with. I’m actually toying with idea of doing my first park run on Saturday...... eeck!!

Fantastic run for you Mark1909, always a good thing to get a sub 35 minute 5K, most of my runs are also between 31 and 34 minutes, not sure if I will ever get a sub 30 minute 5k 😊🏃🏾
Thanks AlMorr, I’m hoping the time will come down gradually but here hoping lol ah that sounds like you have a good run there - good luck with getting a sub 30 minute time - you never know ! 👍
I ran a 5K this morning as my mid week run, my time was 32.11, I ran with my metromone app at 178 beat/steps/cadence a minute, last Wednesday I ran a 5K in a time of 33.10 with the metromone at 176, stride is very important on running, someone could run at 190 BPM but not cover the distances as someone running at 176 bests/steps a minute.
Oh yes, I am learning that there is a science to running and trying to take it in bit by bit. For years I’ve concentrated on weights/ resistance exercise and now incorporating running for cardio and to help with my stamina too. 👍
Park run - good for you, I'm trying to find reason why I cant put off park run. Due a 5k run on Friday or sat, haven't had 2 day rest for over a week, but i still cant persuade myself to do it.
I’m making sure I have 1 or 2 days off between runs and trying to fit in some time for resistance work too. I’m guessing it’ll be a “wake up saturday and see how I feel” kinda day, if I’m feeling good then go for it.
It’s annoyingly having built up to run for so far and so long - you get a twinge or feel a tweak and then your out of action for so long. The older we get the longer it takes to recover. So I’m just being cautious I guess. This morning my Achilles was feeling sore - but that could be having spent yesterday afternoon with my nephew & niece and being run ragged for 3/4 hours !! 😬
It wasn’t lol I’d have a quieter day at work haha. No me neither I don’t want anything that’s going to hold me back so I’m just sticking with 5k for the time being just to consolidate and get myself used to just that before even thinking about anything beyond that.
Sounds brilliant Mark1909! Well done!! 🤩 Have you joined the Strength and Flex group on healthunlocked? 🤷🏽♀️ The Admin Team are from the running group, like UnfitNoMore, Oldfloss! They’re always fantastically supportive!
They look like they’ve got some great exercises to help deal with those niggling issues that arise. I’ve just joined and hoping to strengthen my legs, hips and achilles. I‘ve not had anything that has stopped me from running yet, but I’m getting some aches in different places and I’m not running that far. I think it will help to me to run feeling stronger and keep going. I wouldn’t say no to a strong core either! After all that, you might already be in the group well before me! 😂❤️
Hiya Fabulous450, no I’m not in the group but thanx I’ll join and have a read - they are a great set of people on here always offering support which is so appreciated. I’ve been doing calf extensions by lowering my heal as opposed to raising my heal, while positioned on a step and I hope that has helped - I could do with some ideas for rotator cuff soreness too, in my shoulders. I think I’m lucky that I’ve only got these sore bits considering I’m just over half a century old 😂
Hey Mark I’m right at the half century with ya 🤗, so I know what you mean. 😂!. Our bodies are telling us something, so I’m definitely going to get proactive with some strengthening and prevention now, so I can carry on running without those niggles arising or getting worse. ❤️
🤗 They certainly do - mine tells me most mornings ! 😆they say prevention is better than cure so anything we can do is a bonus. A good chap I followed for a while is renshawspt on Instagram. Weight training for over 30s, I’ve trained for years but this fella brought in some new ideas and angles which I’ve noticed have made a difference to me. Running because the next choice to build up cardio & hopefully lose a few Ibs. But my downfall is that I love my food - and big portions too 😂 ❤️
Aah.....wonderful food!! 😁😂! I know what you mean. There’s nothing like good food. I eat pretty healthily, but I had to cut down on portions quite a while ago, because I noticed that I was building a level of thickness that I didn’t like the look off! I still eat what I want, but I love my clothes too much, not to be able to wear what I like. Food doesn’t trump that one for me! 😂❤️
Yeah same here, I don’t do junk food, but on the whole my shopping list is quite healthy - but I like lots of it too ha ha x oh when those jeans feel a little uncomfortable and you think to yourself “maybe I’m carrying a little holiday weight !”........ time reach for the running shoes 😂❤️
