Things you wish you hadn't done. I thought I would just squeeze in a quick run before anniversary breakfast with my husband. My trusty running companion and talisman, my dog, wasn't with me as she has been on holiday over the weekend because we were away.
It was going so well until I didn't see the curb around a tree because of a carpet of very pretty yellow leaves. I went over on my ankle and sprawled forward, flat on my face. Hubbie had to come and get me because I couldn't walk. Fortunately, I wasn't in the middle of the woods. As I waited, a very kind man came and sat with me on the curb. He even gave me his water bottle. The kindness of strangers is a wonderful thing.
I'm now lying on the sofa with a packet of peas wrapped round my ankle. Ribs hurt a bit too and my hand is a bit of a bloody mess. Off to the doctor this afternoon and hoping it's just a bad sprain.
You'll be proud of me though. As my ankle expanded, the first thing I did was take off my shoe because the worse thing I could imagine was having my Asics ruined if it had to be cut off.
My main concern now is how long I'll be on the injury couch. I was planning to start JuJu's Magic Plan. Poo!

Aaarrrgh, how annoying. I take it you’re okay other than being battered and bruised? Take it easy and recover completely before getting back out there - the 10K will still be there for you.
Amazing how your concern is over your shoes - what’s happened to all of us??! 😂
Thank you. I know. I've always loved shoes but they used to have heels and look elegant. This running lark changes us in unexpected ways! Having an x-ray this afternoon as I have osteoporosis but I'm feeling much better than I did an hour ago.
Thank you. The safety of my shoes is paramount! Do be careful out there. I’d just been thinking that I was glad the leaves weren’t wet but it’s not the only danger.
Ouch. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad and that you’ll be back soon. Great call re the shoes! That 10k plan will still be there when you’re ready for your comeback.
Update: Nothing broken, thank heavens, but I’ve done a job on my ankle and I’ll be out for 6 weeks. My ribs are bruised and are very painful. Hard to believe that one little misstep can leave you in such a mess. Happy running VRBs. I’ll be back. 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Thank you for asking, Buddy. It’s a bit easier to walk on my ankle. Rather like C25K, I’m going slowly, slowly and then a bit more slowly. My ribs hurt a lot but I’m being spoilt so no complaints. 😊🏃♀️😘
Thank you. I'm sorry I've not been around much. The inability to run plus a very busy few weeks have kept me away. I'm following your meteoric progress though. Well done in the race. I knew you'd smash it.
I was just about ready to run again when I caught a cold that aggravated my asthma. Then the snow came, followed by one mild day and a bit of melt followed by freezing temps which has turned the pavements and roads to sheets of ice. It's hard enough to walk, never mind run. But the good news is I've just finished packing for a few days in London to enjoy the Christmas buzz and my running gear is in the suitcase. I've no idea how far I'll be able to go after 8 weeks off but even a couple of kilometres would be better than nothing.
Hope all is well with you. Your boy must be coming home for Christmas soon. I'm going to see mine tomorrow. Stay well, my dear and happy running in your beautiful Yorkshire. xx
