Let's set the scene. It's the 1st of September, I've suffered a plethora of niggles since Gungho 6wks previously. I've just painted the hallway and cleaned up. It's time. I'm going for a run. I turn away from sink, head out of the kitchen to change and BAM!! I've kicked the lead door stop. πππ I have never felt pain like it. It was beyond swearing, crying or laughing. My 4th toe took the full brunt of the blow.
Much hobbling ensued in the following days. My toe went black and my foot purple - pretty π A trip to A&E a week later confirmed no broken bones - phew. 25 days later the bruising is still visible, my poor toe joint still painful to touch βΉ
The mornings are closing in and I can already feel the grip of SAD. Driving home this evening as dusk was falling, I was overcome with the need to run. I cant explain it, i had to run π€·ββοΈ So, FINALLY, after 9 1/2 weeks I've been for a little jig jog. Toe is throbbing but I feel amazing, energised and happy. πππ
This running malarky is jolly good π
Love to all my VRB's. I have quietly been following in the background, watching you whizz through Juju's plan and beyond. You are all awesome x
Happy running folks xxx

Lovely to hear from you! Great you are still running and I am too but never really got round to Juju's plan. Just keeping the jogging going to keep active and healthy.
Hello my lovely, glad to hear you are still running too x whilst the physical benefits are great, it's the mental health benefits that have made the biggest difference. Isn't this running fabulous no matter what speed or distance? ππ
Thanks Franglaise, Xrays were clean as a whistle, which is a bonus. But part of me felt a bit cheated. Pain to damage ratio seems disproportionate! π€£π€£π€£
I see you are going great guns with running π your first 10k race in the bag ππππͺπββοΈ
A good bruising can be very painful as you know and our feet cope with a lot. The villagers here swear by the healing powers of arnica gel and it seems to work.
Good to see you back...running is going well here.....aiming for my next goal of 10miles...currently up to 8. I have to be very careful now as its hunting season....a little disturbing running and hearing gun shots a little too close cor comfort.
I was just thinking about you this very morning as I ran round the village here in Cyprus. I did the 60 minutes training but Iβve failed on the 10 k. I think my limit is 60, but like you, I feel I just want to run. Iβve had that plantar fasciitis myself and itβs very very painful, not to mention you banging your foot on the door stop.! Anyway really good to know you are out and about and moving!
Hiya how's things with you? You haven't posted for a bit. How's FS? πΆπ
I'm with you on the 10k thing. I'm just running to time and happy that I get as far as I get. Long runs and short runs each bring their own joy, so I'll go with what feels good. I'll redo c25k in the short term.
I found rolling my foot on a tennis ball really helps my pf.
Hope you are having a blast in Cyprus. Are you still entertainment for the village elders? π
Ha yes Iβm still entertaining the locals early in the morning whilst here in Cyprus. I still go early on as itβs hot here during the day and Iβm always surprised how many folk I see out walking all with big sticks.
Back at home Iβve been going out with my faithful spaniel, I really miss him whilst Iβm here. When I first started this running business I would go early very early in the morning as I did not want anyone to see me, but now I often go around lunchtime as Iβm not bothered now if anyone sees me. Going in the daytime in UK at this time of year brings its own rewards as I spotted sloe bushes laden with fruit , so I returned and now Iβve got sloe jam, sloe gin and sloe whiskey on the go!
As I said earlier I think 60 minutes is it for me, Iβm getting older and it would be 90 minutes to do 10 k . I will continue doing what I do and I will give the 10 k another go in the spring.
Glad you are doing ok and watch out for door stops, boulders, and other things that suddenly spring out at you!
Thatβs definitely one to aim for but beware, it become every Saturday. And then it could be breakfast with running buddies - another half day gone . π
It will never come to that π Saturday am is pony time ππ but PR sent me a survey asking why, having signed up, have I not gone. So determined to squeeze one in somewhere.
It's a shame I'm too old to do junior PR on a Sunday π€£ mind you they would beat me by a country mile!
Yes Saturday is not good for everyone. In some places thereβs something called Great Local, run by the people who do the Great runs. They are run on a Sunday. I have signed up for a card but havenβt tried it out yet
Thereβs not many around the country but we have one on the same site as Portsmouth Lakeside Parkrun, so I thought Iβd use them if I couldnβt do a Saturday. Hope youβve got one close by.
I can feel your pain, stubbed my little toe badly a few years ago, it took forever to get better...luckily for me I was a lazy sod at the time so didn't miss running like you have! Would be gutted if it happened now π±
Glad you've finally managed to get back out there and had such fun, hope your toe forgives you and stops throbbing soon π€πββοΈπ
