Bilbao Night Marathon

After a few 10k’s Now under the belt and a fairly slow PB of 57mins, I’ve bitten the bullet to do my first real race - the Bilbao Night Marathon as I live here and thought why not it’s local !

It has 10K, 21k and 42k races run together.

Buzzing about it, anyone out there also doing it ?

Any hints or tips ?

57 minutes is not a slow 10k 😡🤣

Race sounds good though - probably too hot for my liking!

Maybe it’s better than I thought, no offence meant.

I work in an office of younger fitter guys who do triathlons, ultra marathons and the like (the thing that spurred me in to do something being the fattest guy buy a long way in the office). Lost over 4 stone and now enjoy chatting about running around the area.

They’re all 50 mins and much less which is a good goal to aim for.

But don’t forget they are younger and probably been running for longer than you! Your time is amazing and the fact that you’ve done a few 10km when you started when? Not that long ago. Basically you are just as impressive as them :-)

When is it? Are you doing the HM?

19 October so temperature will be good, toyed with the HM but doing 10K, I think I need more 10k experience but to be honest I do feel good after a 10K and think I could do more. Also thought there’s a good six weeks before it and would that be longer enough to train for a HM.Kind of stuck between longer distances or faster time or is it both, I’m a bit naive in that respect.

I do my running solo and all the training I’ve done has been so it’s going to be strange running with a lot of people around. Need to get my pace and stick to it or should I use the adrenaline rush and go for a PB ? My thoughts that might be a mistake 😱

I loved my first (and only!) 10k race... running with other people, and my first experience of running with pacers, gave me a real rush. Food for thought, though, I ran much faster than in any of my training 10ks, perhaps because of the adrenaline and the infectious joy of the day. And maybe that contributed to me then picking up an injury near the end.

The moral of the story... it's so easy to push beyond your limits. So my advice would be to better your PB a little, bit not by too much. Perhaps there will be a 55 minute pacer you could run with?

Ps - in my wildest dreams I can't imagine being as fast as 57 minutes! Haha

Pps - well done on the weight loss. I've lost about the same and it feels amazing, doesn't it?
