Magic 10K plan W3R3: Parkrun 5

Good morning.

It was a glorious Parkrun. So much better than last week. No dizzy spells. It was hot, but not silly-hot. Lovely blue skies and a refreshing breeze.

A lot of people showed up and it was very nice to see various friends/relatives/dogs at the side, cheering people on. At one point there seemed to be a dog party going on just to the edge of the track and I did have to be careful to avoid a pooch collision.

Someone had made a lovely sign saying “Go Daddy!”, which was rather touching.

I think I got a new PB, but won’t be sure until the scores go round later.

Hope all the other Parkrunners had good, safe runs and will post to tell us about them.

Well done ! Glad it was cooler. Did you mentally borrow the "Go Daddy" sign?

Great stuff Stephen. Glad you enjoyed today’s parkrun. I did my first volunteering as a Marshall. I really enjoyed cheering folks on 👍🏼👍🏼

Good for you doing that. That is very admirable. The marshalls are total heroes, in my opinion. Kind people like you make it all possible.

I agree the volunteers are great. Decided a little while back that once I made my 50th parkrun I would start giving some back. It was really fun doing it and on the pre-meet I was really made to feel welcome. I will certainly do more now 👍🏼😃

I must give it a go. They do all seem like such a nice and generous bunch.

Good to hear from you that you enjoyed your 5th parkrun this morning, interesting regarding that dog party going on next to the course, only 166 hours to go (and counting ) until my first parkrun next Saturday. 😊 🏃

Thanks, Al. Can’t wait to hear about yours and what you make of it. Pretty sure you will love it.

I did a 5K 'test run.' on the exact course in the same park yesterday, of course I was on my own, it will be different next Saturday surrounded by so many other runners, I think it is advisable to start at the back.

Yes, it’s very different running with so many others. The advantage of the back is less jostling for position. The disadvantage is that it’s a little dispiriting to be behind everyone else! For this reason I choose the middle: you’re not in the way of the serious runners but you do feel you’re more a part of the event.

That is a very reasonable place to begin, I'll be with the first timers next Saturday, not sure where the run director will place us in the crowd.

They don’t tend to place you. You can go wherever you feel comfortable.

I think if you go in the middle, you will easily find your comfortable place, the faster runners tend to get right up the front. Just go at your own pace. I don't go right at the back any more because I realised that it meant I was actually running a little bit further than the ones in front of me! 😂

Exactly. Start in the middle and let your pace find itself.

Thanks for that advice Stephen, only about 163 hours to go for my first parkrun and counting 😊🏃

Well done you, it was much better weather for running today, a much more enjoyable experience! No pb for me today (and only 2 seconds faster than last week in that heat, surprisingly!) so fingers firmly crossed for a new pb for you. ☺ 👟
