I ran my 3k outside today yaaaaay. It definitely wasn't fast or pretty, and it was horribly humid - sweat was pouring out of me but it was outside woohoo.
Made a mistake though, well a few mistakes. First I woke up with a raging thirst so downed half a litre of water before taking the dogs out. It didn't all leave my stomach before running (I usually run on a completely empty stomach). Second mistake was holding my phone on my hand in an effort to pace myself better. The sweat dripped on the phone and kept making it go weird and my thumb kept hitting pause as I carried it lol.
Anyway, lessons learnt, more happy that my transition is going well, if very slowly

Thanks, wasn't too hot just very heavy. Worst thing where I live are the hills and lack of pavements. I would love to do my transition somewhere flatter lol
Fab news that you managed outside 👍🏼. I find the treadmill really difficult. I also feel your pain with the water/phone distractions 😂 there seems to always be something getting in my way lol 😝🤪
Sounds like it went pretty well. Hope the phone is still working. It’s tricky to balance the hydration, isn’t it? Too much the day before can ruin the night. Not enough the day before can ruin the morning run. Anyone have the magic formula for this?
Good for you 😊 I’m not brave enough to go outside yet. It is very hilly where we live and think it would just set me back mentally. Only on week 5 so want to get a bit further before I tackle the outside world
I completed C25K on a treadmill because of pollen allergies, but I would really like to get outside and experience something other than my garage wall during my runs. Now the runs are getting longer I would love something different to look at. I am working on transitioning the short run from the magic 10k outside in preparation to running outside in the summer and autumn (not promising I won't go back inside when it starts snowing).
It is very hilly here too, so I have found a route (500m) with is reasonably flattish and I just did it 6 times today to make the 3K.
I do need music though, I feel naked without my tunes - must buy some headphones!
I will head out eventually and like you say it is good to have a change of scenery,
especially as the runs get longer. Yeah what do you do with your phone, I was just going to hold mine too... 🤔 I need music to keep me going for sure
I have leggings (joggers?) from Decathlon with a zip pocket in the back of the waistband and a zip pocket on the right thigh.
I checked when I bought them that my phone fitted in.
I was fine when I tried my first run in there but my pace was all over the place (cos the treadmill regulates it very well for me lol) so this time I was trying to check the pace by looking at the phone, and the sunlight made me hold it down and I was dripping sweat all over it lol.
You could also try a running belt. I have a flip belt but there are other less expensive options out there. I keep phone, car keys, tissue, money (sometimes I end up by the chip shop 🤦♀️) and small water bottle in mine.
I put my phone in the pocket to check when I bought them, but it's very useful because if you have headphones with a wire, the wire can go up your back and not get in the way. When you test your phone in the pocket, do it with the headphones in so that extra sticky out bit doesn't make the difference between fitting in and not fitting in
You can set Runkeeper to shout out stats to you: distance, pace, and you can choose the intervals that it does that. Then you can stuff your phone in to your pocket.
Mine just yells at me from my pocket. If I'm using earphones for a podcast it pauses the podcast to tell me my stats, then continues with the podcast. V clever this modern technology 👍
Runkeeper shouts at me from my back pocket too. In English though. I ran last night before the temps got too high and my sunglasses kept slipping off my nose as i was sweating like a cochon. There’s always something strange going on during my runs I find 😉
