Well I have to say, it does feel slightly nostalgic posting about Week 1 Run 2... and I honestly have to say I do not miss the C25K week 1 intervals one single bit. They were truly awful!
This run was great though. I pushed myself, listening to the stamina podcast, determined to complete 5k before the 35 minutes was up. And I did The more I run, the more I love my canalside running route, as long as it's not too muddy of course. I just feel so free. Today was one of those runs where everything just seemed to come together. I set off at what I felt was a reasonably slow pace, and where I felt like it, increased the pace slightly, covering just a little more ground with each step, which is an interesting exercise actually. I often play with my stride length a tiny bit, just to see what works best and feels most comfortable and sustainable, and if I straighten my back and look straight ahead, not slouching, I find there's a little more bounce in my step, which carries me further.
So - still not at 30 mins for 5k yet (sorry Sadie!) but getting closer. This was 33:51 for 5k, which I'm very happy with. That must be close to my PB. The best thing about it was I felt I could have kept going a bit further. That's good, because the pace was quicker than my 6.5k run on Monday.
So - bring on the 3rd run, 5.5k if memory serves me correctly. Yes I know we're out of sync with everyone else... sorry
Firstly, great work Neil! Glad you enjoyed it too. Secondly, I have only run a sub-30 min 5k a few times, my average is around 33-36 mins now – so don't apologise – plus I have never in my puff goaded anyone to try to do 5k in less than 30 mins! Thirdly, forget about pace for the 10k programme! Distance, not speed, my friend. However, having said that, if you did feel like you could have gone on further than 5k, you were probably at the very perfect pace for you!
Woo hoo! I am doing my run three of the first week tomorrow, so we are almost in sync. Bit worried as have developed a horrible cough out of nowhere, hope it does make it hard to run. Meh.
Hey you! Don’t worry, I don’t feel at all goaded. The sub 30 minute thing actually comes from the fact that it must be called Couch to 5k for a reason, right? I’m a bit ocd about stuff sometimes, so if it says 5k and the run time was 30 minutes, I won’t be truly happy with my running until I achieve that! Yes, I’m silly, I know.
On a positive note, I do think the speed podcast has helped my baseline speed in general, and my stamina, so it’s all good really
Yes, that is silly! Let it go man! You can run 5k (and beyond!) That is amazing. Unless you are planning to represent Britain in the next Olympics, why worry? 😁
Glad the podcasts are helping with the stamina. I keep saying I will get back to them, but haven’t yet...
Am going to try for my 5k run tomorrow, and if cough gets in the way will abort! There’s always another day. 😁
