Couch to 10K in 6 months - now what?!

Fightingfitforforty profile image

I started couch to 5k in January and after I completed it in April, decided to attempt a 10K in the middle of June. I’ve almost finished the active 5 to 10K programme and feel ready to run the 10K next week. A friend of mine asked if I’d like to do an 8.5k obstacle course in October with her and I’ve said yes - but I’m not sure how to train my body for this! Any suggestions on Apps to follow would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been part using the Nike running app which also links to the Nike training app. Help!!

I think if you continue with your running, and include some strength training, you should be fine!

A fun workout would be a circuit session including fast-ish runs of differing (short) lengths interspersed with bodyweight exercises like squats, planks, and burpees. I imagine also that getting used to some climbing would help - maybe have a go at a climbing wall, or invade a children's play area. Better yet, do you have one of those outdoor gyms near you? Some bouncing stuff might be a good idea too - trampoline or rebounder.

I think I've pretty much talked myself into signing up for one of these races myself, sounds like it could be a lot of fun 😊😊😊
