I’ve entered into a 13K mountain trail race in November. Yikes! I had alcohol consumed when I agreed to do it with my Sister. But we are not going to back out. And so the training started in earnest this evening. 10K done, I surprised myself by doing it in a nice time holding a steady pace. I’ve 2 months to prepare. Wish me luck.🍀

You’ll smash it Damien! How exciting - mountain trails don’t sound very flat to me! You’ll find the hills at Eastville Park a doddle in October! 🏃♂️🏃♂️💪
Oh my God I know😂. The race starts with an 800 ft climb straight away, followed by a 800ft decent and another 2 large climbs. It won’t be a PB course, no way.
I’m really looking forward to my parkrun in Eastville.
I was just working on my 5K time by doing interval training. It was great for developing a faster 5K pace and a comfortable 10K pace. 62 minutes is great. My first 10K took me 1 hour and 15 minutes
It’ll be such fun! Don’t worry the hills there are fine. There’s one short steep one, and three others, not so steep, but longer. You’ll eat them for breakfast! 😅
It’s a run for Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Service called Run the Line. There is a 26K route and a 13K route. I’m doing the 13K option. You get a T Shirt and instead of a medal finishers receive a metal camping Mug. Medals are for Mugs.😀
Congratulations to you Damien on that sub 60 minutes 10K, good training for your 13K mountain trail in November, I certainly do wish you luck.
The very Sunday that the clocks go back there is a HM 21 Kilometre trail run event not too far from where I live, the runners have to run at the start up a 200 meter hill, keep running to the bottom of that hill, then run through quite a hilly area, down again, up again to 200 metres, down, another hill and so on, very different from a parkrun, in fact compared to that 21 km HM trail run or your fourth coming 13K run, a parkrun is what it says it is, a run in the park.
Ha ha...same here in midi pyrenees. I keep being approached to be fourth team member for vertical marathon in October...im remaining firm with my "no" after watching last years youtube video.. best of luck with yours Damien
Thank you. I’m sure it won’t be as severe as the Pyrenees but I’ll stay off YouTube just in case I frighten myself off it. At least the last 2-3k is down hill.
Good luck! 🤞 That amazing 10k time bodes well, you've definitely got this. Thanks for the gratuitous Garmin shot btw 😁 Forerunner? I've decided to treat myself if I can find a good Black Friday deal in November 🤗
Thank you. Yes it’s a Garmin Forerunner 35. I bought it for £80 in an Amazon prime sale 2 months ago. You should get it at a similar price on a Black Friday Sale.
I had a second hand Forerunner 15 for 2 years. The 35 is a nice upgrade.
Thank you. I surprised myself. I was able to hold a pretty steady pace all the way around. The 5K interval training is translating well. I was also doing a few 7K runs every now and then.
I think I’ll need to put a few weeks of long miles on the legs first. I have a feeling the 800 to 1,000 ft climbs are going to be very tough. But it should also be a great experience and something to aim for.
Thank you. C25K to 5K races, parkrun, 10K, 10K races and now a 13K mountain trail race. It’s been a great journey and great experience so far. I should have started running years ago.
Ha yeah. My brother-in-law was involved in organizing the event as he is a team leader in the Mountain Rescue Service. He told me about it whilst on a night out. I told him I could easily do it. He laughed and reminded me the next morning over breakfast. My Sister and I were registered there and then.😀 No backing out now.
That sounds like fun! I can't wait to read all about it. My last 2 trail races we got a large porcelain coffee mug and a stainless steel beer mug. Love it!
