First blister

Hi, today I managed to run my furthest ever yet (a bit under 10K) with a few 1 min walks in between. Part way I felt the underside of my foot rubbing. This hadn’t happened before and when I took trainer off I found a large blister 😬 I’m likely to run again the day after tomorrow. Any advice as I think if I leave is going to be painful and likely to pop anyway?? Thank you!

Well done on your run. Sorry I can’t help with blister advice.

The advice I was reading was try not to pop it as you could get an infection. I put a plaster over mine and some tape over the plaster that kept it at bay. It settled down after a couple of days. Unfortunately it did come back and I had it cut by a podiatrist I was seeing anyway. She put a honey plaster on it to help the healing as it was a big one. If possible though I would say cover it up for the run and leave it to the air otherwise..

Thank you for the advice. I saw generally the advice is to leave but appreciate your advice as a runner. I know it’s not the nicest of subjects! I’ll cover over as you suggest and hope it goes away. Thank you!

Compeed blister plasters are what you need. They are fantastic.

They are expensive but worth it they protect and heal at the same time.

Try not to crease it when you put it on.

Great, thank you! Incidentally I saw some in the shop earlier but didn’t get them as I thought they were expensive but will go back and get them if they’re worth it 😀

They are like skin and protect and heal the blisters they don’t fall off easily either leave on until they fall off.

Good luck

Completely agree with Mumpark. I haven’t needed to use them for running but they definitely worked when I was on a long walk.

Brilliant. I’ll invest. Thanks 👍

Definitely go for Compeed, I used to be of the opinion that you leave them intact and let them reabsorb, but recent advice is to pop them under very clean conditions, evacuate the fluid and then apply the dressing.

I had a huge one last year on holiday, in spite of this it still filled up again, but the plaster kept it pain free. 😐

The weirdest thing happened. I walked to shop (not far) especially to get blister plasters. I walked back. I went to put plaster on - couldn’t find it. Thought must be other foot - couldn’t find it. It’s only gone and completely disappeared. I’m a bit gutted in a weird way now I’ve been and bought the expensive plasters 😯

I was halfway through this morning’s run and was wishing I’d put the plaster on. Thinking there would be a new blister where the previous one had been but instead the skin had come away 😬 plaster now in place.
