Nice little 5k run- week2

Can’t believe I now think of 5k as a nice little run!! It used to be “ oh my god! I’ll never make it to 5k!!”

I overslept a bit this morning so I didn’t leave the house until just before 8.00. I was dreading it being hot as the sun was already shining but it was a lot fresher than it’s been of late. I was also wondering what it was going to be like running after my disastrous run post 10k.

I shouldn’t have worried as it was a nice almost effortless run partway along my usual Tarka Trail and back again. Not a PB but a couple of smaller pbs along the route so that always good.

I’m wondering now what to do at the weekend and could do with some advice. I was going to do my first ParkRun on Saturday to celebrate my 65th birthday on Sunday ... and as I’m following jujus plan and have just finished week 2 ( albeit in the wrong order).. I should be ok just doing the 5k again on Saturday and then the 3.5k on Monday and the 7k Wednesday or Thursday shouldn’t I? It won’t matter about doing the 2 5ks back to back will it?

I know what you mean Lou. My 5k this morning was a leisurely run too. I did week 2 out of order so I think you’ll be fine. I did 3,6,5 this week. 😊

It's amazing, once you've reached 10k, how quickly 5k becomes a short run :) As to the plan, take the worry out of it and adapt it your needs. I'm pretty sure ju-ju didnt mean it to be inflexibly set in stone xx

I think that the order doesn't matter too much f to. Other posts I've read. Parkruns can be great x

My Back is a bit touchy this week but reading this makes me smile when I realise also that I have come so far from the Couch Pirate I was that my plan to "just do 5k tomorrow to ease back in" is actually a very awesome thing for me to be able to do now :)

I know!! It’s weird isn’t it? We were only talking about when we started Couch25k and my daughter said “ do you remember when we were running week1 and you would say “ is the minute up yet?” ( because she had the Garmin watch then) and I’d answer no we’ve only run for 12 seconds so far!!” 🤣🤣🤣

And we’d barely cover 3k including the warmup and cooldowns

Too true! I used to look along the Park route to the furthest marker I could see - 3/10ths of a mile - and think it would be truly wonderful to run that far without either having to stop or dying of Lung Explody Syndrome 😂😂😂😂

Oh I think I had a touch of that syndrome a few times

I can totally relate to the 5k having been the long run and now not so bad at all.😊

You can do the runs in any order, but I think it’s sensible to do the shorter run after the longest, if you can. Recovery run joy! xxx

Ooh good idea. Silly me I was seeing it building to the long run in a week , wasn’t thinking of the short one being AFTER the long one the week after.
