My first 10k... week to go before Longleat 10k

Just finished my first 10k and in a time that I’m really pleased with. Just in time too, as I’ve entered my first running event for about thirty years (a half-marathon when I was overtaken by a pantomime horse!). I’ve been running 2x5k and a longer run each week in my preparation for the last four weeks. What should I do next week? I’m thinking maybe slow it all down a bit and save my energy for the 10k next Sunday?

Wow that’s a great time ⭐️👏⭐️😀. You are such a gazelle. That’s super speedy for first 10k in my world. Fabulous and happy racing Hip hip roar way 🦁 for longeat.... here you come. I have no advice as my training plan is try and run and try and run again a bit further. Never know distance till I am done. 😀. My runs are always a surprise but i especially like the 10k ones.

Thanks. I like your philosophy/approach. Best not to get to wound up in statistics but I just wanted to get to 10k before my first event. I’m just going to enjoy running around with fellow runners next Sunday. All the best to you in your running exploits...

Fantastic STheP, that’s an amazing time. I would imagine with the crowds and adrenaline of the Longleat 10k, you’ll find it a virtual doddle. Good for you! I hope we’ll be treated to a full race report! Good luck next week (and yes I’d personally keep it slow and steady to conserve your energy during the week. 😀)

Thanks for your encouragement. I’ll post a report after the event next Sunday. I’ve no idea what the event will look/feel like but I guess you are right, there will be a buzz around and that could lift me on the day. My race number and joining instructions arrived this morning too. All feeling more “real” now - quite excited!

Congratulations SkyThePie, and it’s a brilliant time. I’m still trying to do 5ks at that pace! What a graduation party this is today.

Yes, from previous advice given on this subject: good strengthening exercises and slow short runs this week. Enjoy your race at Longleat next week. 🏃‍♂️👏👏🍾🤣🎓

Excellent time and congratulations for that 10K run SkyThePie, I notice 0 calories were burned during your run, that must be incorrect, a 10K run at that excellent pace would burn around at least 700 calories or more.

SkyThePieGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Haha! Definitely burned some calories! I haven’t turned that analysis on yet. Fact is - I don’t know how to!

It 'should' show automatically like the other parts, well at least Mapmyrun does.

Massive well done on your 10km! What a cracking pace, too. 👏👏👏 Hope you enjoy your race next week. Some nice little jogettes and post run stretching this week and you’ll be all good to go on Sunday, I would say! 😁

Wow- what a cracking pace and your first 10 as well! Good luck in the Longleat 10K I hear it has a couple of big hills but a great down hill scenic finish. I hope you really enjoy it 😊

SkyThePieGraduate10 in reply toEmmaRunning

Thanks EmmaRunning. I've heard about the hills - a bit intimidating but I'll just put my head down and suffer them noisily!! Then enjoy the downhill sections that follow...
