I was so nervous about this event, I have ran 10k once last October and once more in November before I got weeks of the lurgy and calf strain.
I took part in a 5 mile event a couple of weeks ago (no bling) and I loved it, the atmosphere, the build up, the support - I think I could get addicted to race events.
I met our club (Liverpool running bugs) very early in the beautiful Sefton Park, I could see the huge start line and lots of portaloos (phew).
That feeling at the start line when everyone is waiting is just amazing.
There were drumming bands playing around the course and so many people cheering on such a beautiful sunny day it was great to feel part of it.
I ran with a running buddy and then another club member caught up and stayed with us the rest of the way. I was chatting and didnβt feel too out of puff, if I struggled to talk I just slowed down again and it worked well. It was lovely to have a water station at the halfway point, it was a really warm day so we needed it. A big guy fell as we were turning a corner so we all helped him to his feet and he was fine to carry on.
I had enough energy for a sprint finish (love that feeling) π then on to collect a very blingy gold glittery medal (whoop) my first event medal - so proud.
What next? I have a 5 mile trail run next Saturday (first trail event) so Iβm looking forward to that. Iβm planning on entering a 10 mile event in October in Bury (free black pudding at the end) π so I want to train up for that and then the Liverpool half marathon next March - with hopefully lots of events in between.
Fingers crossed no lurgy or injuries for a good while. ππ»π€π» pic - Iβm on the right with my running buddy.
