Running great Scottish Run this Sunday completed c25k back in March have been running 3 times a week since. I run a 10k each week then 2 shorter runs. The past few weeks I’m getting a niggle in my left hip joint. I can feel it when I run it’s worse when I get up in morning but soon loosens up when I move around. I’m hoping it doesn’t get any worse any tips I’m trying to do extra stretches x
My first 10 k race: Running great Scottish Run... - Bridge to 10K
My first 10 k race
Open the hips up plenty of hip exercises to do. I do them last thing at night on the bedroom floor. Leg raises and hip thrusts. Routinely you can do hip swings before you run
Google, as there are loads I think most of the mat work I do at the gym exercises the hips. Various leg cross overs, squats, lunges, bird dogs, 90 90 exercise. Yoga is brill too Getting down on your bent knees, sitting on them, then resting with your elbows on the mat and gently pushing backwards slow and careful 😃
I hope that it goes really well and that you enjoy and that the niggle wiggles away.
Good luck for the race! The first one is always memorable so just enjoy it, don't start off too fast and remember to switch off your watch when you finish 🙄
Lots of stretches for your hip and this one is especially good.
I had hip pain and ended up seeing a physio. She said I could continue to run as there was no problem as such, but as well as all the hip stretches she gave me lots and lots of exercises, all if which revolved around strengthening my seemingly very lazy and inactive glutes
Good luck in your race - enjoy!
Glute bridges and planks might help. Also prone kneeling leg extension helped me overcome arthritic aches and pains in my hip.
