I've done 8k once before, over a month ago. The holidays kind of got in the way, so I did a series of shorter runs to tide me over, keep up base fitness, 5/6k for the past three or four weeks. Set out to do 6k this morning, it felt good, so I kept going. Ended up doing 10k for the first time in nearly fifty years of my life on this earth!!
Kept it steady, slower than 5k pace (obviously) but it felt good, can't quite believe I've actually done it. And under 60 minutes which was always my mental target.

I do 5k in anywhere between 27 and 28 mins so 5.15 - 5.30 per km, so once I'd realised I might just push on to 10k (actually made the calculation pretty early in my run) all I wanted to do was sub 60 as I paced off slower for my first 2k than I normally would. When the lady in my ear told me I was pacing 5.45 per km, I was flipping happy with that, and managed to maintain it. Flat course though NO hills.
Thanks! I'm properly chuffed and the friend I met up with afterwards (one of my inspirations) actually cried when I told her! When then set me off of course.... 😂
Why, thank you, sub60 was only a dream 3 and a half months ago when I had never actually run other than as part of a team sport at school over 30 years ago!
Thanks, you are kind. My first "event" is in July, and back in January when I signed up it was all just about a) being able to do 10k and b) maybe, just maybe, doing it sub60.... hope I can maintain this and stay injury free.
