I was looking forward to todayβs 10k - my 4th one. Iβd planned on doing it on the trails after a lovely 4k up on the common last week, but I wanted the wind to have dropped as itβs pretty exposed. Today it was the calmest itβs been for weeks, and as it was a bit foggy I popped my dogβs hi-viz on so I could keep an eye on her. π
Got the tech set up, decided to keep my lightweight jacket on (a good idea it turned out), and set off nice and slowly. The last thing I want is a turned ankle with my 10k race coming up in 6 weeks and 5 days (me counting? Never!) The footing was gnarly in places but not slippy and I felt confident in my trail shoes. π
Then it happened. At just over a km the malfunction happened. The zip on my sports bra popped undone. π³ What? How? I unzipped my jacket and went for a fumble whilst still trotting along, hoping no one could see me! Well that bra is hard enough to do up in the first place (those with zip fronted sports bras will know what I mean!) I didnβt want to waste the first km by stopping, so I gave up with the fumbling and concentrated on running smoothly. In the end I almost forgot about it (them!) and youβll now understand why I was mighty pleased I was wearing a jacket! There were quite a few dog walkers and the jacket hopefully disguised my issue! π π
Apart from that, I did my 10k, breaking no records, but not bad all things considered. I loved being on the trails as I could incorporate some hills whenever I wished.
Next time out, my zip will be checked and double checked though! πββοΈπββοΈπ π
Happy running everyone! β€οΈ

π€£π€£π€£! Fantastic Cheeky!! What a task keeping the ladies in check for a whole 10k! Good on you! ππ½ I have to say Iβd rather the sports bra than the leggings running off in the wrong direction! π Thatβs not so easy to disguise! Thank goodness for the jackets! ππ½ππ½ππ½! Well done you!! πβ€οΈ
Hahaha I know Fab! Thatβs the first time thatβs happened to me and Iβm so relieved I was wearing the jacket! Iβm still not sure how it happened as the zip isnβt broken. It must have crept its way downwards!
Iβll be super vigilant next time out. Those ladies canβt escape again! π π
π±ππ well done for continuing your run (you are cheeky after allπ€£) Iβve not run since our move (went exploring on Sunday & completed a 9k walk). Been busy decorating & learning new skills as the hubster has RSI & awaiting an op (needs both hands doingπ±) l can report that l can now put coving up & curtains rails lol. Next job is putting up fitted wardrobes, could be interesting!!! Happy running x
Wow, well done OL! I think Iβm better at running a bouncy 10k than doing any of that! Iβm too impatient and I know Iβd rush such jobs - and then watch it all go pear shaped in the ensuing weeks as things began to fall off/down! π π
Hope youβre loving your new home and you can get back to running properly again before too long. ππββοΈ And I hope your hubβs op goes well too. ππ€
He he Cheeky, it has happened to me too when I didnβt push the zipper right to the top. Itβs a weird feeling as it works itβs way down and then ping. Iβve got auto pause on my Garmin so stopped immediately, turned my back to the world and zipped in again. Phew! Thereβs no way I could run without one, but last week I realised after my run that Iβd forgotten to change into my sports bra and done it in my normal one. Thereβs no way I could have done that a year ago - definitely shrunk in that area -thank goodness.
Well done on your 10k trail run , it sounds like a good one.
Glad itβs not just me Dexy! I imagine thatβs what I did, not pull the zip to the very top. I had no warning though - one moment all enclosed, the next out! π But yes I was pleased to discover it didnβt hurt or affect me so much it that it jeopardised my run! πββοΈπββοΈ
What a nightmare, well done on finishing that run! I have a zip fronted one and it is great, really good firm hold, but a work-out in itself trying to get it done up in the first place! I have also heard of this happening to other people so I am a bit worried..... no way I could run without them being secured! I have lost some weight since starting running and my previous sports bra that was super tight to begin with just isnβt doing itβs job anymore, way too much bounce allowed. I really know about it if I wear the wrong one!
Mineβs a M&S one and when itβs done up properly, there is zero movement - but thereβs definitely a knack to doing it up. I thought I had it nailed, but clearly not. π
As Dexy5 said, itβs possible it wasnβt done up right to the top, and just worked its way down gradually. Iβll be more careful next time out! Hope yours behaves! πββοΈπ€πββοΈ
Yikes! Good job still running your 10k despite the girls being uncontained π. Not the most comfortable run, I'm sure but you're determined, to say the least!
Haha, yes determination is my middle name Sask! No way was I going to waste a precious km by starting all over again, and I know me and if Iβd have stopped and then carried on, it wouldnβt have counted (in my mind!) Iβm not massively well endowed either, which definitely helped! π π π
Phew! Helped to be on the smaller size (as am I) but even then they can be annoying when they move around. I had to run on the treadmill last week, was annoyed that I didn't take advantage of the nice weather, was wearing a non-binding type sports bra and was annoyed the whole time as my less-than-large boobs were bouncing with every step π . I've worn this bra running outside and don't notice the bounce but on the treadmill everything is noticed and amplified it seems π. Oh the woes of a female runner. I can only imagine what our large chests friends go through.
Oh yes it must be quite a hindrance being well endowed sometimes! I suspect Iβd have had to bail if Iβd been on the treadmill. At least outside, and especially on trails, you can adjust your steps and stride length to keep things smooth! I wonβt be doing it again though - I hope! π π€π
Thanks Deals, it was a lovely run, and it felt really good, albeit not particularly fast. The uneven trail/bra combo saw to that! It was nice to be running with very little wind. Good riddance. ππ¨π
Brilliant Cheeky! Well done on your fourth 10k. It is so much better now that the wind has dropped isnβt it and it sounds like a lovely run? My sports bra is from Decathlon and keeps my quite large ladies rock solid, but hook fastening with one of those extra hooks between the shoulders for extra support. Would probably defeat Houdini ππ€£ππ€£
Sounds like your ladies arenβt going anywhere Sandie! πββοΈπ πͺ
I love my bra - in fact I have 2, one in white and one in black. But they would be so much easier to do up with a little hook fastening as well. As it is, you have to pull it together tight to get the zip under control! Maybe it was designed by a bloke? Whoever it was obviously didnβt have to βgrappleβ! π π π
Thanks Dave, I like running 10k and I have no real desire to go further. Iβve run 3 different routes (one Iβve done twice) and todayβs was my favourite. Lots of variety. π
Youβll smash 10k yourself soon. I found that once Iβd done 8k the first time I knew I could do 10k as I could visualise how much further Iβd have to run. π
Good luck, youβre nearly there! ππββοΈ
Thing is Jell, when itβs done up properly - which is clearly what I didnβt do today π - nothing moves. Literally the ladies are encased so firmly you could take up pogoing and thereβd be no movement! πͺπͺ
This is my first such mishap, and hopefully my last. π€π€ Just need to make sure the zip is all the way to the top. If it is, and it does happen again, the bra will be history! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
π€£ what a malfunction to have! Not what i was expecting when i started reading! Thank goodness for the jacket, some silver linings from the dreary weather at least
Well done for continuing and doing your 4th 10k - that's amazing. So glad you enjoyed it
I was equally as surprised Alison! One minute all was contained the next they were free! π π I tried in vain a couple of times, but I had visions of me falling flat on my face with both hands occupied with the zip. I decided to continue and it wasnβt too bad! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Iβm hoping to shave a bit of time off for my race. Iβm always faster running parkrun than 5k alone, so with any luck the same will be true with 10k. Either way, I like 10k. No more bra mishaps I hope though! π
π€£π€£π€£ well done for keeping going for 10k! Yay for that jacket ππ» you must have done a very smooth 10k run! Mine did exactly the same once but I managed to catch it an inch before the point of no return and i just faced a fence and pulled the zip back up π€£π€£π€£ and I know what you mean about the front zip being hard to do up in the first place I sometimes mutter to myself βi burn off more calories trying to get this bloominβ thing on than I do actually runningβ π¬π¬π€£π€£π€£
Ha hahaha so true Bridget! Itβs definitely a design fault - a little hook would help do it up and it would also help prevent it from coming undone. No way could I coordinate enough to do it back up on the go though - I thought Iβd wing it, and it was surprisingly ok, albeit rather uncomfy wearing a half on/half off bra! π π πββοΈπββοΈ
Haha I know Runsome! It wasnβt on my checklist yesterday, but βcheck bra is done up securelyβ will certainly will be one more important thing to remember from now on! π π
Too true Baddie. I have 2 of these bras and Iβm not sure Iβll be 100% confident from now on. Iβd read about it happening to others too, so I need to be uber vigilant from now on! Imagine if happened during a race? π³π³π³ I might sew a little hook on (and I hate sewing!). At Β£25 each I donβt want to throw them away.
Yes, the jacket was my saviour! πππ ππ»
Thanks over61. π I love 10k as a distance, a real sense of achievement without going overboard. My friend (training for the London Marathon) ran 20 miles last weekend in under 3 hours - not enough hours in the day for me to do that! π
I did wonder if it would be too uncomfy Equi, but after some tentative steps I could tell Iβd get away with it. The jacket saved my bacon as it canβt have looked good! π π My bras are from M&S - I might try Shock Absorbers next time. Is yours comfy - and secure? π
I have several but my favourite is the D+ Max - love it. Have to measure properly as the sizes are different to all other makes: I went up 2 cup sizes and a band size and it fitted like a glove. About to order another ππ
They sure do Dave! But where thereβs a will thereβs a way! No harm done and Iβm pleased I soldiered on! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
πVery frustrating CC - but impressed that you carried on regardless!π Your 10k trail run sounds lovely. Is your upcoming 10k race a trail one too?
Thanks Sandra, I couldnβt believe it when it happened as I was so looking forward to running the trails. No harm done thankfully, just a lesson learned to make sure Iβm securely zipped up next time! π
Itβs a lovely place to run. Not a large common, but there lots of interlinked trails where you can incorporate hills and differing terrain, pretty much whatever you fancy. Itβs very local to me, and my dog can run free which is a bonus.
Iβm doing the Bristol 10k which is literally roads/pavement all the way. Quite a contrast, but I canβt wait. Itβll be my first ever race! π
You will love it, I'm sure! I ran the Bristol 10k three years ago - the atmosphere and support on the course was great! As you say, very different from the trails but a really good experience. Good luck!π
What a great job Cheeky, doing 10k and under extremely trying conditions! Gives a running bounce new meaning. If it had been me I would have been so distracted by them, I would have given up. Youβre amazing π
Thanks Lexi! I was quite cross when it happened. It was sabotage and I wondered if Iβd physically be able to go on - but after some tentative steps and some failed fumbling I could tell it would be ok! πββοΈπββοΈπ
Well thatβs a run you wonβt ever forget πππππΌββοΈ. Fabulous 10k Cheeky and well done for keeping going. My god you are a determined soul π.
Youβre right there Wimborne! Certainly memorable. π I am determined. Yesterday was planned for 10k and 10k I was going to do. Not 11k, not 1k + 9k! πͺπββοΈ
No, the route is basically flat, which is exactly why I picked it for my first race. We run round the harbour and under the bridge, then back the other side of the harbour. Iβm so excited, and I bet the atmosphere will be electric! π
Thatβs what I thought, which is unusual for the west. It will be brilliant and you will get a high from doing it with everyone else. Youβve put some good training in so should have no problem. Just enjoy it!
