August 10k among the vines

After a disastrous run on Saturday when I only managed 5k, I set out this morning under heavy cloud (yay ๐Ÿ˜ƒ) with half a thought about getting my 14k done. Iโ€™d spotted a narrow road opposite the Maison de Vin in Monbazillac when I popped to the post office last week and decided to follow it to see where it went. Pottered through various hamlets whose names I recognised from the labels on their wine bottles. Also came across this gorgeous house which looks as though it has been extended over the centuries in different styles. The lane finally popped out on my usual route and wasnโ€™t as far as I thought it would be. At 9.5k I was at the end of the footpath leading through the vineyard to our house and my left knee was niggling (perhaps the unaccustomed undulations!) so I finished at 10k. 14 will have to wait.

PS After a shower and breakfast, I went off to the supermarket for this weekโ€™s shopping. No euro coin to release the trolley, so nipped back to Decathlon. One new pair of running leggings (reduced from 15โ‚ฌ to 12โ‚ฌ) and I had my euro and could stock up the fridge. Well, it made sense to me ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Have a great week everybody ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I like your thinking about getting the coin Sandie! Very sensible if you ask me!

It sounds like the perfect length run in the circumstances too! And anyway, 10k is massive however you slice it. Well done! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Š

Iโ€™m hoping for a cool damp run tomorrow morning. I doubt if it will be, but Iโ€™m keeping everything crossed. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž

Well it was easier than driving back home to get one and Decathlon is very close to the supermarket ๐Ÿ˜‚

I really enjoyed it; Iโ€™m still amazed how much I look forward to cloudy skies! Back to 30C and sunny now, so in the shade with my book ๐Ÿ“–

A good call Sandie. The 14k can wait for the right route. Those leggings are a great bargain. Sounds lovely running in the French countryside so long as you donโ€™t call in for tasters. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿคช

Thankfully a little early in the day for degustation despite the almost limitless opportunities ๐Ÿท We are going with a friend to one this evening though!

That looks absolutely gorgeous ๐Ÿ˜ I love it.. Not certain why but it reminds me of The Triplets Of Belleville... it's a brilliant french animation, worth a watch.

Iโ€™ll have to look that up! The house was amazing - it has a castellated bit, a half timbered bit and what looks like a medieval bit with a modern entrance to the wine tasting room ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Lovely pic Sandie. Makes me think of Corsica and the smell of the macchia; exotic. Absolutely no use for running of course. There are just some occasions when you have to shrug your shoulders, find a shady spot, relax and inhale the atmosphere...... and drain the odd bottle if you are lucky. 14k can definitely wait ๐Ÿ˜Š

What a gorgeous house! Whereabouts in France are you? I liked your plan to get that 1โ‚ฌ! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Weโ€™re near Monbazillac (Bergerac) in the Dordogne MuddledGardener surrounded by vineyards. Idyllic if a little warm at this time of year โ˜€๏ธ

Oh lovely! I adore France. I must get hubby over there again for a holiday soon. We love everything French (apart from the drains!๐Ÿคฃ).

Looks wonderful, I love houses like that

I also love Decathlon - it's like Ikea for sports - you always find something you didn't think you needed but suddenly feel like buying

Iโ€™ve got pretty much all my running kit (except shoes) and quite a bit of skiing gear from Decathlon. Millions of french people canโ€™t be wrong! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Lovely description (& photo) of your run Sandie! I'm impressed that you managed it in the early morning heat. I'll be in the Dordogne next week and think it'll be short morning runs if anything!

The 10 day forecast is for slightly cooler weather next week (mid 20s) so up to about 10 am I think youโ€™ll be ok ๐Ÿ˜ƒ My sister and her partner are coming to visit on their motorbikes so donโ€™t want it to be too hot either!

Where are you staying? International VRB meet up?!

Slinkymalinki profile image
SlinkymalinkiGraduate10

I'll settle for the mid 20s given that it feels like autumn this week back in the UK! We'll be a bit further over from Bergerac in the Domme area. Noir sur how far that'd be from you?

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Graduate10โ€ข in reply toSlinkymalinki

itโ€™s about 80km from us and at this time of year will probably take at least 1.5 hours, so might not be feasible!

Slinkymalinki profile image
SlinkymalinkiGraduate10โ€ข in reply toSandie1961

That is a fair distance, sadly a bit too far for a meet up I think. ๐Ÿ˜” Have a great time with your sister & partner. Fingers crossed for warm but not boiling weather! ๐Ÿคž
