I never thought I would be posting this - another 10K! I’ve run at least 6 now, and loving that I find this distance really comfortable to run.
I set out dressed for running slowly, with warm tights, long sleeved top and lightweight jacket. I actually wished I’d worn gloves. Due to my recent even shorter haircut, my ears were cold as well 😂. I don’t want to dispense with my trademark sun visor but I’ll have to think of something as the weather gets even colder.
I was going to run this 10K slowly. I decided not to even speed up at the end - so I ran my well trodden route and mentally took note of the kms as I was running and enjoying the early morning. I actually saw another runner this morning and we greeted each other as we passed, running in opposite directions. I knew her, she runs a lot faster than I do, but I know she doesn’t run longer distances so I was able to hold my head up! (I did increase pace slightly as we passed. Oh, all right - I increased pace A LOT as we passed 😂.)
I carried on with my run out of the village. I wasn’t taking any notice of my watch, so had no idea of the split times. Last 3 kilometres and I feel myself speeding up a bit. That wasn’t my intention - but decided just to let it happen. Last km and I increase a bit more. Oh, well! I run past my house to get to the 10K. 😀
Looking at my stats, I was surprised to see the negative splits. So neat and tidy 😀
That was a very good run for you today Jools2020, lovely running route judging by the photograph, all those splits show that you gradually increased your pace as the run went on, 7.15 the last K, wow. 😊 🏃🏾
Great 10k run, and fabulous weather, I’m stuck in cold mist here. I’ve been running 10ks regularly for almost a year now an never managed negative splits like that - fantastic effort. Happy running 🤗
Thanks! 😊 the negative splits is often a natural progression. It takes me about 4K to get properly warmed up on a slow run. If I look at my watch I’m often surprised that I’ve speeded up! The last 2K is a conscious speed up and I do like to finish with my last kilometre as my fastest. I enjoy my coffee more, then 😀
Great run! I’m getting ready for my run here in Texas. (Don't ask me who’s President, cuz we still don’t know🤣🤣. ) You’ve inspired me to go for another 10k today, nice and slow.
I remember a few months back when I was just starting to sort of feel like a “real runner” I passed a man who was running in the opposite direction, and he was running really fast, not sprinting, just a nice strong very “athletic” pace, made me feel a bit pathetic, ya know? Not that this should be a competition at all, I know all that, I should congratulate myself just for getting out there, yada yada....but right after he passed by me I turned around and looked....he’d stopped to walk! 😂. He’d put on a burst of speed as he went past me, maybe coincidence, maybe he needed to help his ego, who knows, but it made me smile, and feel better about my own pace!
Maybe try a Buff under your visor for cold weather. Buffs come in all sorts of fabrics, some thicker ones for winter. Your visor would need to be adjustable to account for it though. I love my Buffs!
Glad to have inspired you, hope you enjoy your slow run! I smiled at the story of the man you passed. I speed up if there is traffic, someone on a bike, someone running ...... sometimes I get worn out with all the speeding up 😂
We should remember that our pace is our pace!
Thanks for the tip about the buffs, I have a couple and never thought of using them to keep my ears warm! Sun visors are adjustable 👍
Great run Jools, 2c and fog here yesterday, but dutifully did my 5K😂 early morning. Succumbed to tights, gloves, and lightweight jacket!😱 glad I did , like you I wear a visor, just in case the sun came up , it didn’t! But for other reasons we have discussed before, being male🤣 nice picture too.
I just got some Hygge headbands to keep my ears warm they are quite pricey for one but if you buy one you get 3 free so you can match with outfits, double up as face masks too!! Well worth a look well done in your 10K and your splits 🙌🏼
Wow those last 3k splits were amazing - seems you had fun. I know what you mean about speeding up passing other runners. I always do too I expect - and check my technique (no bobbing!). A couple shouted ‘ ‘speed up’ to me the other day - I did a comedy one and explained I’d walk once they were behind me!! 😆 We all laughed
Thanks, I really did enjoy that run - and that’s what it’s all about! I’m still amazed I can run 10K - and speed up in the second half. I’ve found that it takes me about 4 km to warm up properly. That last kilometre split was pushing it for me, but I was pleased with the result 😊. Somebody told me to speed up the other day. I just shook my head and said ‘Marathon Training’ 😀
