Nike app - can I set my own runs?

Anyone got experience of using Nike App and being able to set my own runs with times etc? I've got the basic "run for 30 minutes" from Quickstart, but wondered if the app enabled you to put in markers at say, 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc. She does tell me how many km I've run, but I'd quite like the timing markers if possible.

TIA for any tips.

You can change the frequency of the updates in the settings before the run... all the splits are distance though. I seldom use the quick start as I’m usually in guided runs or plan ones.

Thanks - hadn't spotted that setting, but as you say, it's all distance, but the ability to adjust that could be useful. I have glanced at the guided runs etc, trying to figure out which ones might work for me.

I’m on a running plan, and all of them are like the quick start ones... but I swap most of the recovery runs for guided ones of the right duration. May do the 5k guided on Saturday, before or after parkrun, and I’m aiming to do the 10 mile one soon!

The isolate intervals can be set to minutes on non-guided runs... splits will remain km/miles on the run log though

You see, when it says "recovery run" that concept is simply foreign to me - despite the fact I can now reasonably comfortably do a 5k, there is no run in my resumé that counts as any form of "recovery"!

I have a chance to do my first ever park run this weekend - will be child free by 8.30am for possibly first time ever on a Saturday and am contemplating if I feel brave enough.

You can do a recovery run... shorter than your long and race distance and nice and gentle... so you could do a 2-3k recovery run pretty easily. The name is really for experienced runners, if you’re running daily, the slow running aids recovery by pumping blood to the muscles... of course we need to be running at least 6 months to consider skipping rest days at all, and longer to run every day.

You’ll love parkrun!

Unfortunately it's not a very customizable app with regards to setting up say interval runs etc...I ended up moving to Garmin app and watch which does have this functionality.

You can then just connect to Garmin and Nike accounts and your runs show in both.

I sync my Garmin to Nike app and Strava

Yep... they’re working on interval runs again and told me to watch this space when I opened a ticket... you can set one up on distance, but it didn’t actually tell me when I’d done the interval... having to look is a pain... watch is probably the best way at the moment.

Yeah cool beans. Also annoyed me when nike paired up with Apple for that mind numbingly expensive apple watch. That does allow you to set your training plan runs etc and will sync to the app...but sod that I'm not paying 400 squid for apple anything...my Garmin was 175 squid and I love it.

For a runner Garmin is the better option anyway. Don’t think Nike did anything towards the watch other than a strap or two and an app in time for launch.

You can programme intervals into Runkeeper.
