Do I believe my Fitbit or my Nike run app for calories burned ?

I ve just done another consolidation run and for some reason noticed that my calories burned on my Nike app says 180 , yet my Fitbit says 925. Why are they so different? I did my run first thing so there wouldn’t be too many extra steps / calories burned on my Fitbit - I have no idea which one to believe .

Can anyone shed any light on this . I know which one I d like to believe 🤞

Hi Karen . It depends I. How long the run was with you saying consolidation I would guess at 30 mins so I would say the lower score. You burn approximately 80-100 calories for every mile you run. Hope that helps.

Hi karen, is the number on fitbit for the activity or the accumulated during the day? That might explain some of the difference. As Maz1234 said, roughly you get 80-100 per mile, but it depends a bit on your fitness (the more fit you are, the less you consume). When I started I was probably burning a bit more than 100 per mile, but I was running less time, so a 30 min run was about 330 (my Fitbit and other apps were giving me different results, but no so different)

Hi 🍎 , no I don’t bother putting the Fitbit to “ exercise “ - to be honest by the time I connect my headphones to the phone my “ tech “ is all run out ! So the 900 cal on the Fitbit was for the day so far not the run only . Do you happen to know what calories are burned for 1 km ( you said 80-100 for a mile ) but my run thingy is in km 🙈🙄🤷‍♀️. And yes I m only doing 30 mins .

have you tried going into the exercise section on the Fitbit app? I don't use Fitbit anymore, but mine would recognize when I was exercising and record the calories for that period anyway. If it didn't recognize the activity, you should be able to activate that for the next one, go to the exercise section, and on the top right you should see the settings (cog thing) and then there you can select how long you need to perform the exercise for it to recognize it and log it automatically

Using 100 cal per mile, you would get 62 per km, but as I said, it depends on your fitness, so I would trust the amount calculated by your Fitbit as I assume it has HR detection?

I think the lower one, I’ve just done a hilly 10k and my calorie burn was under 600. Your Fitbit May be showing total calories for day so far. Happy running 🤗

Thank you ...... it’s quite depressing ☹️. I heard someone not so long ago suggesting we put activity times on chocolate bars etc . Now I realise where they were coming from . ...... how long would I have to run for to work off eating a Cadbury’s Twirl 🤔🤨😳🙈

I find if I have lots of really nice fruit and nuts it helps fill up gaps before I start on the chocolate bars.🤣🤣 sadly no exercise on it's own shifts weight, it does have to come with a healthy balanced diet.

925 is surely for the whole day! No way you’d burn that unless told be doing a half marathon or something!

Today I did a hilly 10k and garmin said I burned 774 calories but I think it depends on how hard you run or how long etc. Just depends on each individual. Just enjoy running and a treat now and again is fine. 😊😊

There are a few factors involved but I think a reasonable average is between 300 and 400 calories per 30 minutes. That’s not the whole picture though there are multiple benefits if you google it and you shouldn’t equate a run with a couple of extra biscuits which I think we all do at some point 🙂

Good morning from Ontario Canada I know exactly what you're talkin about I have a Fitbit I think it's about five years old it was a gift and the same thing is way off on the calories I did a 5-kilometer run yesterday and it says I burned like 1,800 calories there's no way so I follow my Samsung Galaxy S8 phone to Samsung Health app it says I burned 651 calories that makes more sense to me I tried calling Fitbit I'm going to try calling them again I don't know why it says that but I would try calling Fitbit which I'm going to do and I'll let you know what happens because there's no way I burned 1800 calories but I know exactly what you're talkin about

Hello Ontario!!!🤗 I m in wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 in the UK .

I follow the Instagram of a little westie from Ajax in Ontario called cottonballs . Small world eh ☺️. I m glad i m not the only one with this Fitbit anomaly. I should really put it in the “ exercise “ mode before I set off. I m still not a fan of this running lark and I m so grumpy setting off I just want it over and done with 🙈. Once I get going I m fine - it’s the “getting going“ that s not my “ thing !!!😳”. I read all these lovely posts about people running in fields and villages and woods and I m pounding the concrete around the houses 😩. I know I shouldn’t grumble because I can go out and there are many many people who are confined to barracks . I need to give myself a good shake and a talking to 😡🙄. Anyway , good luck with your enquiry with the Fitbit people . I would be interested to know what they say 🤷‍♀️
